I agree with that but I think you can say the same for a number of characters being stuck. It won’t happen this season, but I expect a core member of the younger group to die. My guess is Mike or Lucas.

As of right now, my gut says Nancy.

Wow. Great ending. They used pieces of Snyder’s Watchmen Dr Manhattan theme for the story of Vecna. And it worked perfectly. I wish he was the villain from the beginning of the series.

Is there a missing gap in the timeline somewhere?

How old is 001 supposed to be when he started killing vs when heet 011? Hasn't like 30 years passed? Why does he look like a 27 year old security guard?

Yeah I just finished the seventh episode. I thought maybe the Duffers had blown their wad with the first two seasons considering the third wasn’t as good. But this might be better than the first season. It was a brilliant move to bring back Brenner and make one of the other kids (since most of them seemed innocent until this season) the ultimate big bad and have it by the original.

I definitely feel like they’re setting up one of Steve or Nancy to die but it’s just not the Duffer’s MO right now. I think they’ll save a major death for the next season and have Eddie die. I feel like they’ll set up Steve to be heroic as shite and sacrifice himself only for Eddie to start shredding on his guitar (clip from one of the trailers) and he make the ultimate sacrifice. Like someone else said, how does he even come back from this with the whole town basically crucifying him whether he lives or dies. I don’t think it will be Nancy since she still needs to figure things out with Jonathan and since Steve is around…they’ll be able to settle their feelings in the next two episodes. I have a bad feeling it could be Steve and Eddie tbh

Eddie is definitely a goner. I hate it because he’s grown on me but I do think he does it to save Dustin and the Hellfire crew. It’s going to be one of Steve, Nancy, Jonathan or Max. Max still has the letters lying around for people who haven’t read them yet. Steve has a pretty bad wound but Duffers love setting someone else up to die only for someone else to bite it. Plus, Steve was supposed to die in Season 1. I think they just enjoy Joe and his character too much to kill him off just yet.

Two most likely will be Nancy or Jonathan. I do agree Joyce has been through a lot and it would just be too much to see her and the Byers suffer again but he’s wearing thin as a character. He really has no bonds with any other characters besides Nancy (who he wants to break up with) and Will. His character lacks depth and direction ever since he got to hook up with Nancy in Season 2. Hell most of Season 3 he was just tailing Nancy around and never interacted with anyone else or bonded with anyone else. Sure there’s the whole…Byers have been through enough and they need happiness but it would make sense story wise for Jonathan to bite it. But it would make a lot of sense for Nancy to go too with her still feeling guilt about Barb. But I think she’s got more on the canvas as a character for her to bite it.

For sure: Eddie

Possibly: Jonathan, Nancy, Steve

So far have only watched the first episode. Was not prepared to see that cheerleader get wrecked like she was victim in a Nightmare on Elm Street movie.

First time in a while a show has caught me off guard.

I knew that the guard was #001 as soon as he brought it up to 11 but I never expected him to be a complete psycho killer dude. Much less the son from the house and Vecna.

They did an incredible job of tying several things together, including explaining the origin of the entire show.

frick everyone of y’all predicting Steve’s death. He’s easily one of the best actors and characters on the show.

I just learned that that the actor who played Victor Crull was the original actor who played Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

Rewatched Episode 7 (had a few bourbons in me on first viewing and felt like I had missed some details).

A riveting bit of television.

Yes, they absolutely wove some threads that tie things together very well and NOT just as a convenience.

001 was evil; therefore, it would make sense that his obliteration would open the portal to the upside down.

It is also fascinating that 11 created the Hawkins portal (which, clearly, wasn't the only one [the Soviets had theirs]).

This is 1986. Victor's been locked up for "about" 30 years. Let's say 30. That puts the family murder in 1956. The boy/Vecna looks like he was about 10/11 (which would square with dad returning from WWII).

The events with 001 were in 1979, so 24 years later. Could 001 have been 34/35 in 1979? He was youngish, but considering he had lived his whole life as a lab rat, it's possible a 35 year would have appeared younger. A minor detail.

As for the speculation as to who dies, the fact everyone is on the table is a testament to the writers. That said, Eddie is an easy choice for the reasons stated.

In looking at the Volume 2 trailer, it looks like the Hawkins kids go into the upside down (Robyn is back with Steve and Nancy in one shot - so Nancy clearly snaps out of her trance). My guess is in response to Nancy not coming out.

I don't recall seeing any of the roadtrip crew (Mike, Will, Jonathan, Argyle), which is interesting.

I'm thinking that Brenner and Owen will buy it in the Army raid that's clearly coming and that 11 will wipe them out, leaving her weakened heading to Hawkins (road trip crew will come on scene shortly after and bring 11 to Hawkins).

As for USSR angle, I am at a loss as to how they're going to get out of there. Not only are the Russkies an issue, but I suspect those captured monsters will not stay captured long.

July 1 can't come soon enough

A quick thought for everyone saying the high school and pep rally scene seem terrible and cringe.

I honestly think that’s the vibe the creators were going for. Like the gut feeling during the pep rally speech is yikes. This is cringe. It almost feels like a cheap high school rom com or something. But I think that’s the point. That’s is the vibe they want around the jock character. Unlikeable. Fake. Forced. Cringe. Clueless.

Just look at how the main kids react to the speech. They’re all kind of like wtf.

This is my favorite part honestly

Getting out of the prison camp is one thing. They still have to get out of Russia. Maybe Yuri redeems himself.

Any ideas how the music repels vecna/001? Victor Creel with dream a little dream and Max with Kate Bush? Or just a quirk they came up with to save Max since we now know 001 basically set up Victor to take the fall and suffer. I know it can take them away from the internal suffering or ptsd which summons vecna but im more interested in how it ties into 001. Like someone above said there’s Eddie shredding on the guitar in the trailer which hasn’t happened in the series yet so maybe there is something. Music being vecna’s weakness like demigorgons with fire. I had a pretty good theory about it before going to bed last night but woke up and don’t remember shite lmao

I think it just pulls them out of the dreamworld a little bit. Apparently music breaks through to the mind better than people yelling at you. But with Max it also seems like focusing on positive memories was a part of what helped her escape.

That was a great season, might be better than season 1. Vecna is the bad guy I think we’ve all really been waiting for/expecting. Those monsters were sort of lame but the story was cool which made up for it in earlier seasons. Eddie is the man, great addition. They really knocked this season out of the park and it’s rare you see a show flip a switch like that in tone.

I'm enjoying the season but the Eleven in the lab stuff is super boring and repetitive.

Mike’s character sucks. Easily the most hated of the crew; other than the evil antagonists..

I don’t think Vecna was the originator. I could be wrong. It just seems like he has an extra affinity for it having lived in it for so long. I think the same thing would happen to Eleven if she was trapped there and adapted to it. After all, Eleven opened the portal to it, which I take to mean it was there before Vecna

SPOILER ALERT!

That seems to be Dustin’s take as well. When he and Lucas and little sis were talking it through, they described him as a general. Steve may be right that he needs an ego check, but Dustin isn’t usually wrong. (Love Eddie’s line about, “it’s his tone, right”)

I wonder if they will retcon it so that when 11 was mindcasting to spy on the Soviets, that Vecna sent the demigorgon in there with her. The mind flayer going after 11 makes more sense too, as 001 would be aware what a threat she was.
