It just jumps off the screen to me from her eye movement and facial expressions during her scenes. She's playing chess and some of the actors on this show don't even know how to play checkers.

Just watched episode 4. The last couple of minutes was intense.

Is Nancy and Steve going to hook back up?

Agree 100%
Will might as well not be in the show post S1

How did Eight survive the Hawkins Lab massacre?

She had already escaped I believe.

She wasn’t there already broke out

Max is head and shoulders above the rest of the kid cast in regard to acting chops. She's got a future. Dustin is pretty good. Eleven is good.
Agreed. Especially Will and Mike being bad. I thought Will was OK in season 2 but last season and this one he’s been pretty bad. Mike has always been the most annoying to me and the weakest actor. Just a huge douche on the show who somehow remains in the friend group despite being stuck up a girl’s arse and not hanging with the boys enough. Seems like a good dude in real life but he’s never really been given anything interesting on the show besides his relationship with El, so maybe it’s not entirely on him.
El and Max are clearly above the rest of the kids with Dustin and Lucas’s sister just a tier below and Lucas a tier below them. Will and Mike aren’t even on the radar.
As the series has gone on, and now that Billy isn’t in the show anymore, it’s clear Steve has passed the other teens as well acting wise, though the drop off isn’t nearly as bad. But I’d say him and Nancy are tops with Eddie and Robin a tier below and Jonathan a tier below them. Sucks that both Byers had strong starts in Stranger Things but both have regressed as actors somehow

I’d say Post Season 2. It almost would have been better if he had died on the show. He just hasn’t been much of a focus, which I understand, but it’s clear his character growth and the actor just play too much into the victim mindset. He’s so passive and never does anything interesting. Every arc on the show is interesting except for whatever Mike and Will and Jonathan are doing.

Speaking of Steve, I’m growing more and more concerned that he will die this season. There’s just too many red flags from his relationship with Nancy to him being best friends with pretty much everyone. If the Duffer Brothers want to make the stakes for next season as high as possible it’s killing Steve. Also Steve is currently traveling with Robin (his best friend), Dustin (basically his little brother, and Nancy (who clearly still in love with him).

Yeah they’re going to have someone die. We always end up with at least one shocking death or something pretty devastating happening by the end of each season.
Season 1: Will found but Eleven disappears seemingly for good while Hopper is driven away in a sketchy car.
Season 2: Bob dies, relatively minor but still hit pretty hard.
Season 3: Billy dies and Hopper disappears and El loses her powers.
Someone is going down. It should probably be one of the kids (like Will or maybe Mike) because the cast is just getting too large. I would probably stop watching the show completely if it’s Steve, since he’s become one of the characters I like most outside of Dustin and Hopper.
To add a different name to the mix of who might die: I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it was Nancy. She’s got a good relationship with pretty much everyone else too and what better way for her to finally make amends for Barb’s death, which is still haunting her

Most likely to least likely, my opinion,
1. Jonathan
2. Nancy
3. Steve
4. Max
5. Will
Max already had a close run in and survived. I think she’s safe. Will is a wild card and he’s already been fricked with enough. I think he’s OK. I think the three most likely are Jonathan, Steve or Nancy. Jonathan’s never really been in danger of dying outside of the one run in at the hospital in Season 3 with Nancy while both Steve and Nancy have had multiple run ins. Steve would probably cause more heartbreak with fans but I think Jonathan actually might be the more impactful death. Close ties to all of Will’s friends, Will himself, Joyce, Nancy. But you can probably say the same for Nancy and Steve too.
But the thing about these shows is that they very much build up one or two characters dying (in this case Steve and Nancy) only for someone else to die. They definitely want a shock factor and I think they already have people dreading Steve or Nancy but the ultimate twist death I think would be Jonathan.

SPOILERS
So is Vecna the originator of the Upside Down as we know it (not the dimension itself but the manifestation of Hawkins within it)? Or was the Mind flayer always there and he co-opted Vecna to build portals into Hawkins?
Love the mythos building with One/Vecna. Felt like Eleven’s storyline was a waste of time for 7 episodes… until it wasn’t

Been traveling all weekend and got the family together to watch… and we had to stop at the end of the first episode.
I have two teenage boys that I’ve let watch the first 3 seasons. They have been all good until this episode.
I know this will sound prudish, but the murder at the end of the first episode was way too demon possessiony and gruesome for them. It wasn’t me being overprotective. They didn’t like it or want to continue.
I understand that this is a horror show that has plenty of blood and death but nothing like the end of that first episode. Is the rest of the season like this?

This season has been awesome.
Definitely MUCH darker but I like it.

WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
You will see more scenes exactly like that one. Everyone killed by vecna will be shown exactly like that and each scene shows the entirety of the gruesome nature of those deaths.

I don’t think Vecna was the originator. I could be wrong. It just seems like he has an extra affinity for it having lived in it for so long. I think the same thing would happen to Eleven if she was trapped there and adapted to it. After all, Eleven opened the portal to it, which I take to mean it was there before Vecna

You speak of monsters and superheroes. That’s the stuff of myths and fairytales. Reality and truth are rarely so simple. People are not so easily defined. Only by facing ourselves, the good and the bad, can we become whole.

Steve is definitely the most likely to die as of right now: he’s bitten by demobats and could get demo-rabies. Alternatively he may have inhaled spores and could get the demogorgon flu. Or he may have to sacrifice himself for Nancy.
Steve is stuck as a character with nowhere to really go. I hope he lives and gets back together with Nancy. But all signs point to death. I predict Robyn’s line about “merging together” to give her the courage to ask out the band girl will be paid off when Steve dies and Robyn decides she has no time to lose and follows through.
Next up is Eddie, who is grappling with always running away instead of fighting. Clearly he is going to not run away and stay and fight. The only question is whether it will cost his life. May be suitable as it will be hard otherwise to convince the town of his innocence.
All the Byers are safe I think. Will already had a funeral and presumably Hopper did as well. They can’t keep having that trauma on Joyce.
Max should be safe, but she did leave all those letters to her family. Would be a bit cheap though. Especially since Billy already died and Max already escaped her death scene.
Nancy is a wildcard though, especially with her current situation.
VOLUME 2 SPOILERS
Some shots in the trailer show Robyn, Steve and Nancy in the Upside Down with guns so clearly Nancy is safe for now. But not necessarily for good
