Jonathan/Mike/Will

It's amazing how much these characters are so hated now. Fin Wolfhard and whatever the hell he's doing is not helping, but it's amazing to me that the "main characters" of the show have basically been sidelined by "secondary" cast that has so much more charisma and chemistry and likeability.

I even like Uma Thurman's kid and her shoehornes in lesbian plot 10x more than Will/Mike/Jonathan.

Without the Pizza Boy, that van ride would have been hell... And I think the Duffers know this now because of how little they were used in this season.

Controversial opinion...

The worst part of the show might be 11. Take the origin story of 001 out and my God, the story around her is flimsy and her acting is kind of wooden.

Havent read much of the thread but here are a couple thoughts I have.

So the Duffer's mentioned that the last season might be up to 5 years in the future. We know that the upside down is stuck in 1983, and we saw the upside down come into our world at the end of this season. I think its probable that Hawkins is stuck at the day the breakthrough happens but the outside world is in the 90s. Could help account for why the kids will look so much older........I think its also possible that the government has Hawkins quarantined or maybe even put in a bubble somehow to try and stop the spread of the upside down. Not as sold on that theory though.

I think Billy comes back and saves the day in season 5. He was talked about and showed a crazy amount of times in this season and I think that really foreshadows his return next year. I also think his redemption arc somehow leads to saving a dead Max.

My buddy seems to think that Eddie will come back next season as a werewolf because when he was introduced, Im a Teenage Werewolf started playing.

Argyle grew on me by the last couple episodes. Murray is probably my favorite character. Dude has had some epic lines (how was the pull out?)

He was good in previous seasons and was the perfect goofy reliever. Wasn’t written as well this season, and there were too many others like him

I guess Eddie felt he had to redeem himself but man he a great addition to the cast.

Bummer to see him go. "Even in the end he never stopped being Eddie" :(

Mike and Johnathan are just unlikable at this point. Their roles have been played out and there's no room for them to grow anymore.

As far as Will Byers... There's a scene in Game of Thrones where Maester Aemon tells Jon Snow to "Kill the boy, let the man be born." Will needs that talk. At least introduce some sort of mentor like that so he can become a demon killing fool like Ash in Army of Darkness.

Eleven can start to talk like a normal person any day now.

One thing I thought that was odd about the ending was when Eleven gets free from the vines. She falls down to her knees and the screen goes black for a few seconds. Then it cuts to Vecna flying through the air. What was the purpose of that odd editing?! They could have made it continuous, where she falls to her knees and is extending her arm out and using her powers to throw him away from Max. I felt that was a very odd choice.

I noticed that too. Thought it was awkward.

Just finished. Man that last episode was a marathon. Should have broke it up into two episodes.

I feel like the season could have ended on the town being destroyed and the first episode of season five being an extended version of the final 40 minutes

So who's ultimately calling the shots, vecna or mind flayer?

Vecna.

The mindflayer is basically just an energy cloud that Vecna found in Dimension X/Hell/Upside Down and manipulated it to basically be part of his consciousness to do his bidding and cross the barrier.

It can also be inferred that the Demogorgans are basically all possessed by the same energy of the mindflayer, just like the ones in Russia, to do Vecna's bidding as well.

When we first see them in the flashback, they seem like they are just kind of minding their own business.

It's been Vecna all along.

Am I the only one who thinks Will Byers looks like this guy's gay son:

That has to go somewhere in season 5, because that would be the only purpose to the Russian storyline. I loved this season, but I kept waiting for Russia to tie into the rest of it. I assumed that Murray and Hopper killing the various demos had no impact on One. So, that whole arc has to have been for something. So, maybe they will need to explain how the cloud possesses the demos.

My main worry for season 5 is the whole world will know about this gate opening. Maybe they will have the government contain the info getting out, but that seems difficult. What makes the show great is only the main characters know what's going on. So, it makes sense for them to be the heroes. With the gates opening, the scale just got huge. I hope the Duffers pull off keeping our non powered characters as important while it making sense that the rest of the world doesn't know anything.

They'll have to shut the town off from the rest of world a la Outbreak, and the kids will stay in Hawkins hidden at the cabin because they are the only ones who know what's really going on.

Season 5 will probably feature a lot of the crew evading the Government, and sneaking around to find Vecna.

The Russians obviously have to play into it as well but I can't really figure out what they have left to offer since the camp is all dead now.

It won't be the same if the whole world knows what's actually going on in Hawkins.

Robin spend 90% of season 3 flirting with Steve. It was an absolute bait and switch. Even the characters in the show acted like she was flirting with him. I feel like this is you projecting dude. A LOT of people never got that vibe

There were actual articles written when season 3 came out about Robin being written as Steve’s love interest. They were midway through the season of filming before that decision was made. Will on the other hand has been written that way since the beginning.

While what you wrote makes decent sense, the fact Lucas was reading her the Talisman makes me think otherwise.

Duffers just came out and said Will is going to have a very big role in Season 5. Can’t wait for the bitching on that

I hope so. He has had absolutely frickall to do since S2 when he was possessed. Even then, his character didn’t get to do much except move the plot forward. His arc this season was painting and telling Mike he has heart. I feel bad for the character, but the writers seem to have no clue how to make him useful.

He really didn’t have anything to do with season 1 either. Season 2 was the only season where he was a primary character.

You can see that they didn’t intend for some of these characters to be around 7 years later. The Duffer Bros serialized vision actually suits them more than developing characters over multiple seasons. The entire Byers family could have just “moved to California” by themselves this season and we’d probably all have been better off.
