Just finished watching the last two episodes, I have a few thoughts and some questions...

During the scene with Nancy, Steve, and Robyn against Vecna I kept wondering what would happen to upside-down Hawkins if they DID kill him? Wouldn't it cease to exist if they had been successful, since the whole thing being a reflection of Hawkins was a creation of his mind? I was just sure they would be successful in killing him, trapping half the cast in the upside-down as it looked before Henry/One shaped it into Hawkins with all the lightning, demodogs, and demogorgons. Season 5 would be spent fighting to get them out.

Also, my wife and I were both yelling at the TV "keep lighting them and throwing them, why are you just standing there!" in reference to the Molotov cocktails Don't even get me started on the shite I was yelling at the TV while Nancy continuously made body shots with the shotgun. That really pissed me off.

Then they slowed it down and zoomed in on her trigger finger, and I thought "finally, here comes the headshot!" Nope, another ambiguous body shot. Dammit Nancy.

I kept telling my wife "they need to cut his head off, or shoot him in the head!" Then there was the parallel scene with Hopper be-heading the Demogorgon and I thought surely they're setting up for a Vecna beheading after that... Nope.

That all was very frustrating, but I realize they had to set it up for season 5. I just wish they had done a cut scene at the end to reveal Vecna being alive, something creepy instead of Mike just saying he feels it.

I think upside-down Hawkins being stuck in the past before all this began will play a huge part in the closing act of the show in season 5, essentially this will be how they ultimately "fix" Hawkins and go back to normal. It may require El to sacrifice herself and basically do a reverse-One where she uses the upside down version to recreate the real version.

I also think Eleven discovering her ability to bring people back to life will show up again in a big way.

This was probably the best season of the show yet, it'll be hard to top with season 5. I wish the ending had some tweaks though, such as an explanation as to why the 4 gates are still open when Max lived. And there's this big gaping plus-sign shaped gate across the whole town, and people are just staying there and ignoring it?

Could've used a little less "feel good" in the last 30 minutes and a little more exposition explaining some things, plus a buildup to a more creepy and suspenseful ending. All in all it was an amazing season though, those first 7 episodes were some of the best ever on TV.

I just wish the ending lived up to the mind-blowing revelations in episode 7, that set the show at about a 10/10 and it ended on about an 8/10.

Hopefully it'll take place in the late 90s with the kids wearing Jncos and listening to Limp Bizkit and playing PlayStation.

I thought the Duffner brothers had to be convinced to do season 4/5? That they hated it and wanted to get out of the game?

Of course money talks, but hard to believe they would do a spin-off if they had to be drug back in

Definitely never heard that I did however hear that they always planned on ending it after four or five seasons

Rewatching the finale, the scene with Dustin and Eddie's uncle got to me more. It seemed like Eddie was all Mr. Munson had left. There's supposedly a 2-3 year time jump between this season and next, and I hope Eddie's reputation in the town was made right. Now that the upside down is making its way into Hawkins, I guess his reputation could go either way. I just hope Dustin somehow led a campaign to make Eddie a martyr for good and not as a demonic cult leader.

Anyone else wish they killed more people off? I’m assuming they will add another 3-4 characters like they do every season and the cast is already pretty bloated

Not Max though. Wish they killed off Mike, Will, Jonathan, or Nancy.

Calling it now. Max's mind is trapped within Vecna but her body will be in a coma all of season 5. Once Vecna is finally defeated, her mind will return to her body and she'll wake up.

I thought they pulled too many punches with character deaths this season and they don't have the guts to kill off any of the core characters. I'm not asking for a Red Wedding level of shock, but you start to not worry as much in these scenes when you know the writers only let new side characters die.

Max and Steve are by far my favorite characters. I thought Max was safe after the scene in Ep 4.

Then she had some limbs snapped and her eyes almost gouged out. I really hope she's okay after all of this.

Mike, Will and Jonathan can die though. At least Nancy has some heroism in her. The other 3 just suck. Especially Mike. Mike's whole character for 4 seasons has been "I like Eleven". Maybe your fear is right dude. She doesn't need you anymore.

I liked season 4 a lot more than season 3. Just finished the finale and that was one wild arse ride

That is good theory but before she died she was completely separated from Vecna and her pain and death was from the physical trauma from what he did to her imho. I would take her mind being blank as she was gone, but there has to be a point in Eleven bringing her back. Or, at least I guess it could just be to show the level of power she now has.

I agree, I thought for sure one of the core characters was a goner. They definitely hinted at Steve hardcore, so was relieved he made it but surprised there wasn't more than Eddie and Dr. Brenner.

Either Mike and Will are shitty actors or they have absolutely no chemistry, or the writing for their characters is terrible.

Will (Noah Schnapp) has become distracting he's so bad. His constant slightly worried look worked when he was a kid, but now that he's a little older you'd expect they'd allow him to express that he's used to dealing with the events of his past (the upside-down world and the dangers within). Instead he seems like the same exact little kid from season 1, but it makes no sense given the evolution of other characters. He hasn't progressed as a character at all.

Greatest season by far IMO. Eddie playing Metallica to attract the bats is an all timer.

Go back and watch all 3 scenes with the kids:

Mike, Will and Eleven
Lucas and Max
Eddie and Dustin

The death scenes were crazy good and you could see and hear the actors’ emotions pouring out.

Mike and Will are so lifeless at this point it’s not even funny. I can’t tell if it’s bad dialogue or if they just can’t muster up anything for the camera. And it’s odd because I thought they were great in the first 2 seasons. The last 2 have just been so disappointing for them.

Just saw a wild theory that said Vecna took Will in S1. It shows a shadow that looks like Vecnas outline, and has the same breathing and clock chimes. Also the use of telekinetic powers that a demogorgon doesn’t possess.

He survived because he was singing his favorite song.

Don’t think that’s a wild theory at all. I noticed when I rewatched S1E1 that there was a silhouette of a man in the road instead of a demagorgon when Will swerved off the road before being abducted.

There's definitely gonna be some sort of connection between the two expounded on in the next season, they basically set it up in Ep. 9 where Will said he can feel that Vecna is still alive. I'll have to go back and rewatch season 1 to see if there's any hints at this, but that would be some crazy foresight and planning on the writers' part.

I still don't fully understand how Vecna and the Mind Flayer work. I know Vecna essentially created MF out of that disorganized energy, but is MF it's own "being" or is it simply a vessel for One to enter other's minds that he fully controlled?

I tried rewatching the scene, but the silhouette isn’t on screen long enough to tell. I didn’t hear clock chimes, but they unlocked the chain on the door at Will’s house and I don’t remember any other scene in the series where a demogorgan could move things with its mind like that.

Any explanation on how the season 1 demogorgan could seemingly open temporary gates all around Hawkins to take victims, but the demogorgans in Russia couldn’t just open a gate to escape captivity?

ETA: and how did the Russian demogorgans survive, but the mind flayer in the mall die when Hopper and Joyce destroyed the laser and closed the gate?
