But why did they need that journey to have its own episode? Even with the importance it held for her arc, the way they presented it made it feel like more a detour than a defining moment. I think they could have presented it much better.

All the same, still loved the second season. Just didn't understand that choice.

I kind if agree with you about the stand alone episode. It was a character builder for El like you said. But it also did feel like a "break" from the regular storyline. It gave the showrunners the chance to throw in the '80s street punk motif. Plus I think it'll probably setup a big plot point for next season with the "Papa" tie in.

I liked this season. Anyone that went into this season with the thought of comparing it to last season is doing this season an injustice. I think they did the best job they could've in explaining "what was in" the Upside Down. And I loved the fact that they ended it with the '80s teen dance (even though it was a middle school dance) nod. I thought it was an extremely good "sequel".

Max is important for the role that she plays in the development of Lucas and Dustin, particularly Lucas.

So I just finished Episode 7. I mean, it wasn't terrible as a self-contained story, but man, I was disappointed to have an entire filler episode.

Her "sister" might show up in season 3... at least that's what I believe may happen.

I thought the season as a whole was great. The first scene of 2.1 was showing 8 kill someone and then getting away. They played that up like it was going to be a big deal only to go unmentioned for 6 episodes, then to have a filler episode devoted entirely to that. They could have done without that episode. Other than that, I thought it was excellent. I was hoping to maybe see 8 come back towards the end to help El.

I certainly foresee a bigger plot for 8 and potentially papa in season 3. Sucks that we have to wait a year.

I agree. I loved the season as a whole. Yes not as good as S1 but still very good. The whole episode 7 really derailed everything. Very out of place and really slowed down the whole momentum the show was building.

I think the show needs a season 3 but after that it either needs to focus on a new group of characters or just be done with it completely. Don't pull a House of Cards

Just finished it.

I'm with the vast majority when I say the Eight subplot was the weakest part of season two. While the season as a whole wasn't as good as season one, I still felt like this was a very solid nine hours of television. I came away from this season practically in love with every core character.

I hope they don't make this like House of Cards and just drag on the story unnecessarily. I feel like three seasons would be more than enough to wrap up the story surrounding Hawkins, Indiana.

Yes 1 was better, 2 was still great.

Bob the Brain and Max was a great addition. Billy was annoying though and he will definitely bone Mrs Wheeler.

Didnt mind the 8 storyline

I didn’t dislike the 8 subplot because it taught El some things about herself and clearly did some set up for future seasons. We’ve seen 2 of at least 11 special people going through experiments and testing that Walter Bishop and William Bell would be proud of. I think this is a much bigger set up than people that disliked the episode are realizing.

As for the rest, I really liked season 2. It was another fun ride and all of the new characters worked. My biggest gripe was how they finished out Sean Astin’s part in season 2.

Spoilers episode 8 IIRC

Fat Hobbit not being fast or skilled enough to survive a demo-dog is completely believable. There was no reason for Bob the Brain to die of stupidity. Leaving the gun and resting after getting through one door when only one more door would have gotten him to safety...That’s just not how Bob should have gone out.

Just finished it. Liked it, didn't love it. I absolutely loved everything about season 1 and the first 6 episodes of this season were right on par with it, but then for me the last 3 episodes and the ending of this story kind of fell flat.

This is about as perfect of a summation of my feelings as it gets. 7 is the worst episode of the series. 8 & 9 turn into popcorn fests. And I especially disliked how some of the new characters were used to carry/redeem storylines despite not feeling particularly integral to the bigger narrative. Idk. Just didn't finish strong in my opinion.

I'm assuming they were included for next season when papa comes back.

So should they have shoe horned a black female character into the story and made her and Lucas pair up? Or pair her up with Dustin?

Lucas is the seemingly only black kid in friggin Hawkins, Indiana. For a middle school character that's going to have a natural interest in girls, there's a good chance that he's going to end up flirting with and getting paired with a white female character. Nothing SJW about it, just how the story is going to logically go.

Reverse the roles of Dustin and Lucas in that dance scene. Lucas isn't as goofy a character as Dustin; he's much more serious in tone (or as serious as a middle schooler can take themselves, anyway) and probably doesn't have the same sympathetic charm as Dustin, walking around asking girls to dance only to wind up crying on the bleachers. Dustin is the quintessential goofy middle schooler and it makes all the more sense when Nancy comes in to save the day. It wouldn't have worked that way with Lucas because that's not the way Lucas' character had been written leading up to that scene.

quote:

Dustin deserved her more imo. He put more work into her early on than Lucas

Which is exactly why things ended up the way they did. I think everyone had that one crush as a kid that you felt like you did everything you could to get her to like you only for her to like one of your friends instead. It sucks and it's uncomfortable and it's probably going to be a plot point in season 3 as these characters continue to grow.

I thought Max and Billy would end up a bigger part of the story, particularly as to why they ended up in Hawkins, which was teased early on but never fleshed out. Maybe it will be a part of S3.

Yes. Short for D'Artagnan of the 3 Musketeers because that's what Dustin fed him.
