Star Wars TLJ has the lowest audience score of ANY Star Wars film. . .ever
Posted on 12/20/17 at 10:40 pm
Posted on 12/20/17 at 10:40 pm
54% currently
Closest to it is Attack of the Clones at 57%
Phantom Menace is 59% for reference
Force Awakens is 88%
Well. . .maybe it is the Alt-Right spamming in Nazi Raaaaaaaaaage?
Nope. RT and Fandango confirm that the audience score is 100% valid

It's just not a good movie. There are aspects that are good, maybe great, but as a whole the movie flopped with the storyline.

The RLM guys said it best - it’s not a mess, but it’s messy.

It destroys their sense of self-worth that so many people don't agree with them. That's why a year later that cant let go of the anger about Trump having remotely enough support to be elected
This is all about the largest movie franchise getting a make over in order to rid itself of its past. And that effort is nose diving, and they just cant accept it. They are terrified that their gains on the social front, are being blown up
The support for this movie has little to do with its adherence to good movie making, and everything to do with demonizing fans that have historically enjoyed this genre

Expectations were high.. but the disjointed sub plot, abandonment of TFA questions and kick in face and unnecessary ending put me off the movie.. I definitely enjoyed it more than episodes I & II but I'm frustrated by the what could have been with this movie

Even if you completely set aside the obvious SJW garbage implanted into the movie, it still sucks.
To me personally, who enjoyed the originals, still mostly enjoyed the prequels, LOVED the Clone Wars series, loved several Star Wars video games, THIS JUST DIDN'T FEEL LIKE STAR WARS.
The entire subject of the force in the movie felt ignored, and dumbed down and almost even mocked in the way they discussed the force.
Some of the lines/actions i disliked:
Luke throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder.
Luke saying he can't just take "laser sword" and get people.
How is a light saber in any way just a "laser sword" to JEDI MASTER LUKE SKYWALKER, and anyone who has watched the Clone Wars knows there's a VERY important process and care given to a Jedi padawan creating their light saber. Its this major milestone in one becoming a Jedi, and given huge importance in the Jedi order by Jedi Masters.
As Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Anakin in Attack of the Clones, "this is NOT a weapon, this is YOUR LIFE".
Seeing as the light saber is a HUGE part of being a Jedi and then Luke throws a VERY important light saber over his shoulder in one scene, and then essentially belittles it as a "laser sword" in another scene, I can't help but think this is just mocking the entire Star Wars idea of Jedi and the force.
Then, literally everything Rey says/does sounds incredibly fake when it comes to the force.
She goes to Luke to supposedly understand all of these things that are happening to her, and whatever is "inside her", yet immediately seems 100% confident she can just turn around and turn Kylo Ren a trained force user in the dark side who Luke knows first hand is extremely powerful.
No training, claims she doesn't really understand what she can do, asks for help, Luke really doesn't help her, and then she immediately turns around and is supposedly able to face Kylo Ren.

In my opinion Attack of the Clones is the only one giving it a competition for the worst. Honestly if I was forced to rewatch one of the two I would probably go with AotC.

AoTC at least has Ewan Mcgregor he was perfect in the role of Kenobi.

I hate when defenders of the film say you don't like it because it's not how you envisioned it. While I don't like where they took the arcs, my main issue is the out of place humor and pointless Finn arc that went no where.

It would be nice if you would actually mention something about Rey’s character instead of talking about the force. The force is not who she is.
Luke also received no training and no dagobah does not count. Yoda didn’t teach him one thing about using a lightsaber.

What's up with people bringing up "subverting expectations" when it comes to this movie? I saw someone mention it here and have seen it brought up many times in other reviews. I expected a Star Wars movie with a good plot and great action, and got a convoluted mess with a horrible plot with too many twists and so so action. This was the only other Star Wars movie besides AotC where I actually felt bored while watching it. Is that subverting expectations? Because if they were just trying to take everything people expected and pull the carpet out from under them then mission accomplished. Unfortunately people also expected a good plot.

Serious question I honestly don’t have an answer to: Is the feminist SJW message going to play well to foreign audiences, specifically the China market?

My biggest problem with her character in these movies is Rey didn't earn anything she has. The classic come from nothing hero archetype usually goes through a period of great practice or struggle or defeat or learning.
She hasn't bled for her beliefs. She hasn't spent time training. She hasn't dedicated herself to her mastery. She was just given magical super powers with no limit and no match.
She's never lost a fight or even had a conflicting decision. She's never faced a consequence or overcome a great trial we weren't sure about.
We're just supposed to take it at face value that this random slave girl with no connection to anything else ever in the Star Wars ethos who has no training and no practice is the most powerful force user ever? It's just annoying and shitty story telling.
That's the problem. The characters and plot lines in this movie are indefensible from a basic writing prospective. Forget star wars. Look at the way you craft a good story since the dawn of time. From the Iliad and the Odyssey to the Canterbury Tales to Shakespeare to the Golden age of film. You can't just throw basic story and character principles out the window and expect the fricking thing to work.

You know what would've been an amazing twist in this movie?
If in that throne room when Snoke presented Rey to Kylo to kill, Kylo force grabs Anakin’s old light saber, slashed Rey in half with it, then turned around and slaughtered the Red Guard and Snoke. Then Luke shows up to the resistance planet just in time for him and Leia to sense what happened and the movie ends with Kylo giving the command to take his ship down to the planet so he can face his old master.
You want to end the Skywalker line and restart the whole franchise? That's his you do it. Episode IX sees the first order wipe out the resistance and then Luke and Kylo battle to the death. Luke kills Kylo and then dies his magical force death.
Skywalker like ends full circle. Star Wars can move on.

Spot on Breesus.
After TFA I was convinced Rey was either Luke or Leias daughter or a clone of Anakin. You can buy the unearned expertise in the Force if she’s a part of the family. Remember Luke was blocking blaster bolts from a remote like an hour after Obi Wan gave him his fathers lightsaber. So Rey having the awakening moment in the snow on Starkiller Base and besting her relative wasn’t so hard to believe especially with him having taken a bow caster bolt to the torso.
Even in this movie I was convinced she was Kylos brother. It makes the conflict between them real if it’s between siblings and reminds me so much of the story between Jacen and Jaina Solo in the EU. And I’m okay with that.
But to throw out the Skywalker legacy by bastardizing Luke and making Rey some random chick cheapens the story for me and makes Rey’s power AND her connection to Kylo unearned. Don’t give me that “well the force chose some random chick to balance out Kylos fall to the Dark Side” crap. If Rey is of Skywalker blood it also gives weight to her attraction to the Dark Side that scares the piss out of Luke. Even he had his brush with it during his fight with his father.
So now what do they do? You’ve got a hero with unearned power that you either roll with or effectively retcon by saying “sooo, Kylo was lying to you and you’re actually his brother. Sorry bout that.”
