There's a fantastic 90 minute movie in THE LAST JEDI anchored by raw emotion, thrilling action, and some beautiful story beats.
I'll bet this clown loved some suicide squad.

If the film needs to be 2 hours and 30 minutes to tell its story, I am fine with that.
Movies rarely need to be three hours long though. The Director's cut of Batman v Superman was as long as it was because they were trying to shove so much into the film and it still didn't make that much sense.
All that being said, the directors cut was the better version of the film.

THR...

Maybe the film is a tad too long. Most of the new characters could use more heft, purpose and edge to their personalities, and they have a tendency to turn up hither and yon without much of a clue how they got there; drawing a geographical map of their movements would create an impenetrable network of lines. But there's a pervasive freshness and enthusiasm to Johnson's approach that keeps the film, and with it the franchise, alive, and that is no doubt what matters most.

Yet if "The Empire Strikes Back" stands as the defining chapter in the "Star Wars" saga, as second movies go, "Last Jedi" ranks closer to the "Attack of the Clones" end of the gene pool.
Ouch...if this is even 10% true, it's a huge disappointment given the absolute steaming pile of shite that was AOTC.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi review: yes, it’s really that good
Instead of copying ‘Empire,’ ‘The Last Jedi’ explodes it

There are some scenes in this movie I can’t wait to talk about. Not because they’re beautiful, though they are. Not because they’re heart-wrenching, though some of them are. But because The Last Jedi challenges itself with moments that, if mishandled, could easily have tainted beloved Star Wars moments in the same way that many people feel the prequel trilogy did. Instead, it navigates those narrative rapids with aplomb.

Let me guess: RT is going to pull a Justice League and hold the actual score back for their lame podcast?

I always read reviews but they will never sway my opinion.
Critics don't like anything that isn't up for an Oscar. Anything that is fun or funny is usually scored terribly by them. Meanwhile, weird shite like Birdman is god's gift to cinema.

It's 17-0 on top critics.
Also weird that most of the negative reviews still have it as a 2.5. Then on some movies a 2.5 is fresh.

That’s bullshite and you know it. As someone who reads and listens to many many critics, including some very pretentious ones, none of them have that mindset

i09 re: runtime
good to hear they've taken the least interesting/necessary character from TFA and made him even more irrelevant
otherwise, this is an A+ review

The film’s epic 150-minute runtime allows plenty of room for Johnson’s inventiveness, but there’s also a tiny bit of fat in the middle of the movie, specifically in the Canto Bight scenes with Finn and Rose. The casino city itself is gorgeous and has some crazy-cool characters, plus Finn and Rose’s presence there shines a light on some new, worthwhile themes for the Star Wars franchise. However, in terms of the overall story, the whole escapade feels a little pointless and small. It doesn’t help that Benicio del Toro’s new character, DJ, who is part of the same storyline, is largely insignificant.

Down to 93%
Not too shocking. I thought it would end up in the 89-90% range

Doesn't mean it is good.
