Episode 8 Prediction:

The First Order gets some payback like in Empire Strikes Back.

Rey loses a hand.

Has to make her own lightsaber because the anakin lightsaber gets lost again.

I'd strap in, with Rian Johnson at the helm, I'm thinking we are going to get at least one big twist and another death. I'm holding out hope Rey turns to the dark side and Snoke takes her on and abandons Kylo, even though he kills Luke. Then finally, Finn taking up Luke's lightsaber. (green one)

Then the final movie, 3-way lightsaber fight between Rey, Kylo and Finn all for different things.

Someone on this thread says Rey is gay and gets zero down votes. I mention that a character who's face we don't even see and who's robotic hand doesn't match may be someone else and I get down votes? C'est la vie

Looks like Denis Lawson, the actor who played Wedge Antilles. Maybe Wedge becomes a high ranking senator in the republic.

Well it was the actor that played the supreme chancellor in Judge Dredd.

I also didnt like how Rey just started to use the force in the final battle without anyone really telling her to "let it flow through you". Han could have had a few sentences of dialogue to her trying to explain how luke did it, when really he didnt know.

See previous comments below.
quote:

"It wasn't until she was backed against the collapsing chasm that she closes her eyes and "relaxes" while the sabers are at parry. After what seems 5-10 secs "feeling, channeling" the force, she comes out and defeats Ren."

This is crucial in answering how/why could Rey accelerate through stages in her force utilization? She was at peace and was not afraid of death. It is the same reason some Jedi transition to a force ghost. Using force is something caught more so than taught. She was actually in training for most of the movie. Several stages in her training were evident throughout. Also the force is not impersonal and lifeless, like gravity. So many of you speak of training and knowledge as if the force were not actually guiding and directing it's users. The force can be dormant and yet resurface millenniums later. That's all for now.

Eta: Maz Kanata tells her the force is all around her.

Does anyone know who the old guy is in the very beginning that gave Poe the map to Luke?

This is what I found:

The rumor going around is that Max von Sydow plays a character named Lor San Tekka, a man in possession of information vital to the quest of finding the elusive Luke Skywalker. As an elder of a village on Jakku, Lor San Tekka is sought out by the heroic pilot Poe Dameron to find the missing Jedi’s whereabouts.

Now who Lor San Tekka is, I dunno. Maybe someone else will know.

No, I'm including myself. I loved a lot of the movie and thought it was right up there with the OT coming out of the theater. But, I think it's best to rewatch without the suspense factor to really gauge where it stands.

People need to chill out on Rey being able to wield a light saber and defeat Ren. He's been badly hurt by Chewie and Fin, and she can fight already (See metal staff) and she's force sensitive. It was annoying at first, I agree, but it becomes more plausible as you think about it.

The political situation with the First Order and The Republic is also pretty self-explanatory.

Also, here's a crazy theory: what if Snoke wants to use Kylo Ren to track down Luke and turn Luke to the dark side? Perhaps as bait to draw Luke into acts of vengeance and turn him to the dark side?

For all the talk about it being a reboot of a New Hope, I was pleasantly surprised about the original course it took especially in the second and third acts.

It's way better than ROTJ. I'm trying to decide if it's better than ANH. I'll wait until I watch it a few more times.

Other than that, who else thought that was freaking awesome when Kylo tried to force pull the lightsaber and it flew past his head and into Rey's hands?

This was her first time using the force to grab an object. It was halfway in the snow and she needed it to survive. This is also the same way Luke first used force to move an object in ESB on Hoth to kill the Wampa. Parallels for days.

I really liked how shocked Ren looked when that thing flew past him and into Rey's hand. My bet is that they are cousins. She just happens to be stronger with the Force because Luke is her father.

The first scene where Kylo freezes the laser blast in mid air and holds it there the entire time until he walks away was my favorite force scene.

And it's just dawning on me about Kylo, the son of Leia Skywalker and Han Solo. Can't believe I didn't pick up on that earlier.

this this this

The way he did a quick turn out of no where and froze it was so badass. Also when he force choked that guy by making him float towards him was legit.
