Of my friends who have seen the movie who are as hard core Star Wars fans as myself, 3 hated it and 2 loved it.

I'm thoroughly convinced this will be like Man of Steel, where tons of people love it initially, and then there's everyone else who could see it for the pile of garbage it actually is. They'll be bombarded to eventually concede. I don't see how you can possibly justify Finn's awful arc in this movie.

This movie makes an excellent argument on why women shouldn't orchestrate war or be on the battlefield.

Probably sacrilegious to say this, but Carrie Fisher was a bad actress in 7 and 8. I'm not happy she's dead, but I'm happy she won't be in Episode 9.

When she starts yelling orders on the bridge, she could barely speak.

When she has to look sad or contemplative, it's so terrible that it takes me straight out of the movie. I don't think I could do worse.

there is a whole time frame between ESB and RotJ where Luke goes back to train. He was not a Jedi at the end of ESB- he had become a Jedi by RotJ.

bullshite. In ROTJ, Luke meets up with Lando, Chewie and Leia on Tatooine to save Han, then returns to Yoda for the first time since ESB. When he gets back to Dagobah, he tells Yoda that he has returned to complete his training, and Yoda tells him he doesn't require any more. If he went back to Dagobah to train first, why did he wait until ROTJ to ask Yoda about Vader being his father? None of the events in ROTJ suggest that Luke had been back to train with Yoda since he left in ESB.

It's not bullshite. There is other star wars media out there besides the movies.

I would posit that the large majority of Star Wars fans are only so because of the movies and have never consumed any other Star Wars media.

Myself included.

Then link your media and explain why my points are incorrect. That media was created after the movies. The specific scenario that you are talking about doesn't fit with the original story, so whatever book or cartoon series, etc that you are referencing is at best lazy writing, and more likely just bullshite.

The other Star Wars media sprouted from the original movies. It isn’t like an entire series was written (like GoT or Harry Potter) and then adapted to the screen.

I understand this.

That doesn't change the sentiment of my statement.

He probably waited until returning to Dagobah so that the question could be asked on screen

I just finished Thrawn. Really great book, and Timothy Zahn is a great writer. I would love a Thrawn trilogy.

That's the thing that aggravates me. They have all of this material to work with. Literally hundreds of Star Wars books and short stories. And this is the garbage they give us.

Yeah but all the other source material is in timeframes between the prequels and the OT. The new trilogy is new canon, so they are winging the story at this point.

What I'm saying is that they didn't have to go out on their own. They had good source material they could work from.

I guess. But Disney said they want Star Wars films for the next 25 years. They were trying to continue the OT saga the best they could, while moving the whole universe forward. Disney is not just thinking about episode 9, but also 10,11,12. Eventually they may start making some trilogy’s over the other material as well.

There's no need to guess. There are hundreds of Star Wars books out there - many set during this time period.

The problem is finding the ones that don’t still focus on the Skywalkers. Even in Thrawn Ankakin is talked about a few times. Zahn even said that Thrawn and Anakin will meet up in his new book next year.

This whole movie was one big cringe. Del Turro was absolutely terrible, the dialogue was very Episode 1, the stupidity of light warping into the ship, yoda coming in for a cheap laugh, the "can you hear me now" bit, the cheapening of Chewbacca and Yoda, it was like they were whoring out the original characters to be fricked right in front of our eyes. Think South Park's Indiana Jones episode and that's how I feel about this disgraceful film. frick, people still clapped at the end.

Yes he did. He had him in his arms as a baby.
