Probably sacrilegious to say this, but Carrie Fisher was a bad actress in 7 and 8. I'm not happy she's dead, but I'm happy she won't be in Episode 9.
The franchise needs to move on from the Skywalkers.

Yeah she was fricking terrible as an actress. I didn't mind it in TFA because she had a small role. Making her an important character brought down the film.
I could have still forgiven it if the rest of the movie was good.

Every time she was on screen, it took me out of the movie.

Anyone else have a major issue with Rose ruining Finn's chance to be a hero?
And what the hell does it mean that saving the ones you love is better than killing the ones you hate?
This is a war movie. The word "war" is in the freaking title of the film. Soldiers do what needs to be done to protect the people. Finn was on his way to go out a hero even if his little ship didn't actually stop the battering ram.

It’s like they went out of their way to be polar opposite from Jyns sacrifice in Rogue One.

I'm just gonna repost my thoughts here:
They decided to make a trilogy:
Movie 1: competent director and Original Trilogy Screen Writer.
Movie 2: Hack director who wrote his own script separate from movie 1 and believes in starting and filming a movie without a complete script and then piecing it together in editing.
Movie 3: Competent director returns but without the screen writer.
We'll see how that goes. But The Last Jedi was riddled with horrible forced out of place humor, and the most egregious ex machina plot armor I've maybe ever seen in a movie. Ever.
Almost every single action build up in the movie was robbed of a climax by some bullshite ex machina plot armor. By the end of the movie it wasn't even fun to watch scenes anymore because you knew there was never any danger of any main character having a consequence to his action. That's a massive problem in film making. And it's something the OT didn't suffer from too much. Especially Empire. And it's something The Force Awakens didn't suffer too much from either. Nor every character has to die, but one of them could've at minimum gotten substantially hurt.
People are upset because there was a legitimately cool star wars story line buried in a horrendously incompetent dogshit movie.

I said the same thing earlier in this thread or a different thread. Felt like an a-hole but it is what it is.

I don't mind a woman being the hero in a Star Wars movie, just tell a good story.

The only part of the movie that bothered me is the condemnation of people profitting from war. A movie and franchise built on profitting from make believe space wars is a ridiculous place for this message. The introduction of a class of people that arent really affected by the war trivializes the entire movie chain and all the characters. The message does not make sense. Luke should have just taken a shower and just went and played dice with the people enjoying their lives.

That entire subplot should have been axed.

I still refute that Luke was trained by Yoda He didn’t train. He ran around the jungle and failed to lift some rocks. If everyone is ok with that then I’m ok with Rey
They made a big stink about Anakin being too old to be trained in TPM and he was what, 5 or 6? And then Luke and Rey both find the Force in their late teens?
There’s never been any consistency in that.
At least they didn’t make Rey powerful enough to resist Snoke. I thought for a moment she might be able to do that.

She was just powerful enough to knock Luke on his arse though.

yes, I thought Finn dying to take out that cannon would have been a great end to his character. Instead, he somehow was able to drag Rose across the battlefield in front of about 30 walkers. I would think someone would say...lets send a few troopers down and capture/kill those two.

This is explained in canon. It's not that he was too old to train, it's that he was too old to fully engulf himself in the teaching of the Jedi and would be very susceptible to turning to the darkside. This was basic Jedi protocol- find them very young and begin molding their mind.
Obi didn't have the benefit of exposing Luke to the force early- he had to deal with the hand he was dealt.
Also, there is a whole time frame between ESB and RotJ where Luke goes back to train. He was not a Jedi at the end of ESB- he had become a Jedi by RotJ. Notice Vader says "Your training is complete" when he surrenders himself.

quote:True. Before that she said Luke had cut himself off from the Force.
She was just powerful enough to knock Luke on his arse though.
So it could be that he wasn’t at full strength, and we know she has the raw power of Ben Solo.
Which, by the way, still makes me think they probably are cousins.

Hard to film that scene when your actress is dead

This might be the most polarizing movie of all time.
Of my friends who have seen the movie who are as hard core Star Wars fans as myself, 3 hated it and 2 loved it.
So weird.

I'm gonna catch a late night showing this week to give it another chance. I really don't see how people could love it.
