Just finished watching the movie. It was pretty cool. Best part for me was the Yoda and Luke scene, brought me right back to the 1980’s. That was such a cool exchange and Yoda teaches him the final lesson. So cool.

Other than the fact Yoda looked fricking weird as frick. Like B movie level bad

I feel like I'm just ranting about dumb nerd shite now, but how do you not have at least one shot of everyone in the resistance in awe at Luke's arrival.
In the TFA they talk about him like he's a God among men. Instead, he shows up and everyone's just kinda like "oshit waddup" to this supposed living legend

I just got out of the theater. I'm still digesting this. My initial reaction is that it wasn't a bad movie. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't Attack of the Clones bad.
I really liked the Kylo/Rey storyline. I wish they would have spent more time on that.
I wanted to know more about Snoke; for TFA to build up this mystery around him, only for him to be used as a plot device to get Kylo and Rey to work together, was a little disappointing.
Laura Derns character served no purpose. Her role shoyld have been given to Admiral Ackbar.

I feel like they have forgotten what makes Star Wars so great. Or maybe is that it’s just because the generations now need either a laugh or action or feel good moments every 20 seconds of a movie. But not every moment needs something happening.
This scene is what I’m talking about. It doesn’t need jokes or fighting or some sappy moment. But it was still a powerful moment.

Haha it is a fantasy story, hint there is no actual Yoda. It looked like a fricking puppet in 1980. It was only a cool character because of the dialog and Frank Oz’s acting.
People bitch about TFA not being original. So this is a very original story. Now people bitch about that.
The Leia space thing is something they did all the time in the old expanded universe. Jedi could use the force to to sustain their bodies for a short time in space.
People bitching about luke’s death must have never watched Star Wars. The mentor of the Jedi always dies. It was pretty damn obvious when Yoda gave him the last lesson what was going to happen.

I keep hearing this. But I didn’t think TLJ was really anything original and something crazy different from the other movies. Instead of doing well, the the Resistance fricked up. But the way the told the story really wasn’t anything different or original in my mind.

Chewy better have his head on a swivel.
Han: DEAD
Luke: DEAD
Leia: Alive but really DEAD
Chewy: ???
They will probably continue to trot out CGI for Leia in the next movie and kill off Chewbacca.

There is original stuff that works in this movie: Kylo Ren and Rey. Stick with that. Double down and make this 80% of the movie. Rey does nothing in the finale and Kylo is only present in the Second Act through Rey’s visions. Instead they take us to fricking Monaco for 40 minutes.

That was written in awkwardly as well in RotJ and forced in because they had no other choice. Luke’s death was lame as frick. I mean after Carrie Fisher’s death, couldn’t they have just had Mark come in for 1 day of shooting to reverse his death at least since all Episode IX has left is Chewie?

You can just tell the movie was made with no passion

Luke will be on the next movie. I mean Yoda is still showing up like 50 years after he died.

Nah it was made with a passion. Just the wrong kind. Like the kind of passion you have when scratching poison ivy.

I really don’t want to pile on here but I’m a little upset I didn’t love this movie. It’s OK I guess but between TFA and R1, this is the first new episode that I walked out a scratching my head.
I understand they want humor. I do too, but Poe doing the prank call on the commander of the First Order’s fleet in the first scene really made me cringe. Then Luke threw the saber behind his back. I feel like there should have been some sound effects like “whump, whump, waaaaahhh”.
Name one baddie from the original trilogy that was a walking punchline. They had laughs but they were serious movies. This movie went from prank calls, to teaching us about the toxicity of a vendetta, to having Finn try and sacrifice himself because of a bloodlust TWO times in 30 minutes. Once with Fasma and the other with the door knocker.
