It moves the franchise forward so we can finally get away from the original cast.
yep. I'm ready for storylines that aren't 30 years old and lead characters that aren't 60.

Also, Snoke is legit awful.

Snoke would have been a great baddie but they tossed him out too easily. I mean the guy supposedly watched the fall of the Republic and the rise and fall of the Empire but couldn't foresee or plan to prevent his apprentice from doing what Vader did to the Emperor? I mean come on. Instead we'll never know his full backstory.

That’s kind of why I loved it.

We can FINALLY move on from tired OT tropes.

I don't think we saw the same movie. I'm not sure we even live in the same Universe. The Last Jedi was excellent, unexpected, and forged an entirely new path for the franchise in a good way. Ya'll bitched because the prequals were trash (they were). Ya'll bitched because Force Awakens was too similar to A New Hope. Ya'll bitched because the Force Awakens didn't give enough back story. Ya'll bitched because Rogue One had too much fan service (despite being an awesome film). Now, ya'll are bitching because they gave you something new, gave you tons of back story, and took the franchise somewhere new, and you STILL hated it!? Ya'll are worse than the rant after a win.

Dilly Dilly! This guy gets it. I don’t even know where these miserable people come from.

This...all of this...

And for those saying the Skywalker legacy is over...or I cannot believe the Ray parent reveal was shot upon because Kylo said her parents were junkers.. well, ummm....do you all remember that Luke and Leia's origins were also lied about?

I couldn’t stand BB-8 in this one. I don’t remember him being as annoying in TFA, but he was awful in this one.

For me it did the 3 things a MOVIE needs to be good

Great acting

Emotional pull

Audience investment

Of course the acting is great. But that last one, Audience investment, is the deal breaker.

The biggest questions from the Force Awakens were “Who are Rey’s parents” “Who is Snoke and how did he come to power” and “Why was Luke in hiding”, and they either weren’t answered because of an unceremonious death or had answers that did and should leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. The audience was invested in these questions and that’s the problem. There was no reward for that investment.

Griping about the main antagonist being killed off after doing nothing and never even knowing where he came from is legit

I think it just proves he wasn’t the main antagonist; Kylo Ren is. You may come away from Force Awakens thinking he is, but in the context of this movie he is just The Supreme Leader who was overthrown. I think Luke’s messages about himself and other Jedi, as well as the Dark Side, being victims of their own hubris, set up Kylo Ren being able to catch Snoke off guard and assassinate him. Snoke’s backstory wasn’t important to the context of this movie (just like the Emperor’s wasn’t in the original trilogy).

While I liked Admiral Holdo, her character wasn’t needed. It should have been Ackbar that sacrificed himself for the Resistance instead.

Ummm, yeah. Didn’t think about this.... what the frick were they thinking with this?

Why did Kylo have a gurdle on? I wanted to see the wounds Chewie left on him. It was such a missed opportunity when they didn't show Luke being told of Han's fate. Instead, they just cut away. That was almost as bad as Chewie walking past Leia in TFA after Han's death without her consoling him.

There were so many missed oppurtunities. They killed an iconic character like Admiral Ackbar without even showing his death on screen. While I liked Admiral Holdo, her character wasn’t needed. It should have been Ackbar that sacrificed himself for the Resistance instead

Ans empire guy should have yelled "its a trap" just before Akbar hyperspaces their ship.

How could anyone involved not have suggested it?

They've shite on all the rules of the universe and the force that Lucas established. No force training ever? Sure you can perform mind tricks. Hyperspace? Sure one ship going to hyperspace can shred an entire fleet. Oh we've got these junk speeders that Poe kicks the bottom out of? Giant super laser to knock the gate down and starts crumpling Finns junk speeder but then he puts the entire ship in the ray and he's fine???? And then Rose crashes into said junk speeder and he still walks away???? The new trio sure have some thick arse plot armor.

They missed so many oppurtunities to make this great. Gambling planet and no Lando? Cmon. Luke rebuilding the Jedi order and has padawans and we see none of it? Build up a bad guy and have no backstory on him whatsoever.make him all powerful and then Kylo kills him with the light saber right next to him? Knights of Ren? Still haven't seen them. Just god awful writing. Star Wars as I knew it is dead.

Nothing that happened in this movie mattered.

Not even close!

Snoke is dead.
Kylo-Ren is now in charge.
Luke is dead.
The Jedi texts are destroyed.
The Resistance fleet is gone pecan.
Ray learned some critical lessons about the force.
We learned what really happened to Luke's fledgling Jedi Academy.
Luke finally showed up to save his sister and the remnants of the Resistance.
We learned about the money forces in the Galaxy profiting from both sides of the war.

We learned that there can be such a thing as Pyrrhic victory. Just look at the American Civil War verses the American Revolution. General Lee won nearly every battle, but in every victory, he lost men he could not replace. Eventually, the attrition caught up with him and he lost the war. Washington, by contrast, lost nearly every battle, but was a master at keeping his forces together. By constantly living to fight another day, his forces lived long enough to strike a decisive victory.

Everyone wants to jump in and get that W, but winning battles doesn't necessarily win wars. Poe took down that big ship, but he lost a ton of men in the process.

This movie was all about unlearning the cliches established in the previous movies. It was about thinking bigger. It was about truly passing the destiny of the story on to the next generation. They will decide where the story goes, who they want to be, and what the future holds.

quote:

Rey’s force vision, ObiWans voice, her seemingly unwieldy command of the force, she’s gotta be a Skywalker, right? Nope. Random chick because basically medichlorians.

We don't know that. Kylo-Ren had lied to her a ton leading up to that. He very well could have been lying about that as well.

Kathleen Kennedy fired Michael Arndt, the writer of TFA late in the game. She proceeded to hire and fire the Lego directors and well as the Jurassic World director. She is now giving Rian a trilogy of his own. She isn't the best judge of talent.

Another gripe I just remembered:

Luke referring to his "laser sword" - 6

That leaves Anthony Daniels as the last remaining cast member.

What a cruel joke that is considering he’s debatably the biggest blowhard actor who has ever lived. He thinks of himself as Peter O’Toole. Giving Anthony Daniels a career has to be George Lucas’ biggest regret.

Because if they had done this though Ackbar would have simply told Poe his plan and he wouldn’t have had to send two people on a suicide mission. Had to come up with a logical way of adding that in. What better way than a purple haired woman?

They fly full speed for 10 mins....then he drags her body past an entire legion in 5 mins?

That and him tossing the light saber were probably the most cringeworthy moments to me.

Finn should have died. Would've been a true GOT moment.
