actually really liked Rogue.
when you simplify the plot (get the death star plans to the rebels) its amazing how well you can build a movie and characters around that.
still not sure what was going on with TLJ
Agreed.
I suggest that anyone who’s either on the fence or doesn’t like R1 to go back and watch it again after TLJ, which makes it look like Citizen Kane by comparison.
It’s a really good film in the context of the SW universe. Simplistic plot, plenty of action, humor but not overkill (as was the case in TLJ), and very respectful of and paying homage to the OT without leaning too much on it.
Inversely, TLJ’s plot was a convoluted mess, tried to be Monty Python, and shite all over the OT and everything set up by TFA.
Circling back to the viewing order, the perfect order would be:
1. ANH
2. R1
3. ESB
4. ROTJ
5. TFA

Spot on and that's all I ask. I know I'm not their target and am willing to accept a lot. But this was just...long

Me either

What happened to the kind of fat pilot from VII, Snap Wexly? Where the frick was he? If the resistance is 500 or so people how do we manage to lose one of the ones you feature in episode vii.

Finn
Rose

6 other women and a trans philipino orphan

I think in any reasonable universe, it would actually be 13, since Rose would be thrown into a wall with a cigarette in her mouth to face a firing squad for killing almost everyone in the name of BBC.

Wait? I thought Rose was the trans Philippino orphan?

To be fair I think the stable orphan can rustle up a few other orphans and convince them to quit shoveling animal poop and join the resistance so there's that...
The Resistance.. And the franchise.. are in good hands!

All of the men deserted the rebellion after being shite upon and overlooked for promotion.

Except for Rey being ridiculously over powered in TFA, I liked that movie. Sure, it was a straight up rip off of A New Hope, but I thought it really did move the SW universe into the future. I even liked how Jar Jar Abrams dealt with the heroes of the OT. Han's death was at least meaningful.
Being a bit of an old nerd, I wasn't happy that Disney nuked the EU. I love The Old Republic, KOTOR 1 and 2, and the lore it brought to the SW universe. I even liked the Revan novel, not how it ended, but it was impactful on the legend of Revan.
So, after watching TFA several times on blue ray, all I could think was that Marey Sue and Disney was going to pay homage to Revan, someone that was very powerful in the Force, but for reasons untold, she had lost her powers and memory.
But after Rian Johnson and Disney shite out this putrid vat of diarrhea that is EP 8 TLJ, not even Revan could save the franchise. Turn the paragon of hope, the true Last Jedi, into a old drunken PTSD suffering veteran so insane he'd murderer his nephew for having "darkness" in him, there's no place to go with the story. Ep 9 cant fix the Franchise. There's not enough shovels at Disney to shovel the shite of TLJ out of existence. Thankfully there are the George Lucas Films and the EU to keep the memory of SW alive.

The movie opened in China on Friday, January 5th. I saw it at 5PM on Saturday, and there were only 25 people in the theatre. Maybe this was anecdotal with the afternoon time and the theatre in my city that I chose, but I was expecting a bigger crowd. I am curious how it will do at the box office here.

Where in China do you live? I lived once Beijing for 3 years.

This is my second year in Sichuan. I think another poster on this board is moving here this year actually.
Back to the movie, I was just sharing my experience at the theatre. If you are emotionally invested in the Star Wars universe and felt let down by the movie, I'm definitely not here to disagree. I've seen all the films, but this was just a fun time at the movies for me. I enjoyed it. I want to wade back through this spoiler thread and read the theories.

Episode VIII was such pure garbage for all of the reasons listed throughout this thread. How is Disney capable of making such a great film like Rogue One (one of my Top 3 favorite SW movies) and then following it up with this complete pile of crap? It's mind blowing. I want to know who in the hell signed off on this script and thought it was a good idea. Frick Disney and Rian Johnson for this abortion of a movie.

Same boat - I liked the movie. Not really sure why there are so many people complaining in this thread. Everyone I know who’s seen it has liked it too.
The Last Jedi definitely wasn’t a perfect movie, but I think a lot of people have standards that are impossible to meet or are simply looking to find fault instead of just enjoying the movie.

I wouldn’t say it’s shitting the bed in China, but it is most definitely underperforming, so much but so that Hollywood is downgrading it’s projections in Asia.
WSJ - Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Falls Short in China
In Disney’s defense, that’s not necessarily a problem with TLJ - even though it is underperforming compared to TFA and R1 - and more an issue of Chinese not really knowing or getting Star Wars since the OT wasn’t released in China until many years later. Disney has pulled out all the stops to generate interest there, but it doesn’t look like it’s paying off yet.

That’s not a theory, that’s just what probably happened.

Way to keep up the trend of attacking anyone posting they liked the movie.
I just for the hell of it opened the last page of this thread after 2 weeks of silence on this topic just to see if it was still happening bc I bowed out weeks ago after getting shitted on for liking it, low and behold, the literal last post is shitting on some poster who liked the movies taste. Never change.
