To be honest, I kind of like that she’s the daughter of some drunks who just abandon her for booze. Like what kind of a person abandons their daughter in Afghanistan times 10? It’s a virtual certainty of death and shows they were assholes.

I’m not arguing against this. I’m just saying as a STAND ALONE moment it wasn’t too bad.
I agree that most of the moments (if isolated) would be fine, but they just kept going back to the well. You shouldn’t be going into a serious scene expecting some low brow humor in Star Wars.
Star Wars is Star Wars because it’s different. The repetitive humor reminded me of Marvel movies, Transformers, and all the other modern “popcorn” movies like that.

Thought for a second that Snoke would be her father and Snoke was Luke's First Apprentice or something(older than Kylo) and he got into Kylo's ear and they tried to kill Luke or something.(snoke got beat up, and Luke got upset he lost Kylo)

This is the biggest flaw in the movie in my opinion. In the long run, nothing they did had any point to it due to the unnecessary deception
Critics online are lumping all the ‘hate’ into people just being mad over Luke, but that’s no where near the core of why people are leaving theaters dissatisfied.
The editing is piss poor, it felt like the movie had 5 different endings, it labors on like an Indy art house drama, 40-60 mins of complete useless crap, writing was cringeworthy, lines like,”let’s go Chrome Dome” were brutal and characters were useless.
How they showed this cut of this movie to test screeners and focus groups and management was like,”yes, this is it, they love it” boggles my mind

They've shite on all the rules of the universe and the force that Lucas established. No force training ever? Sure you can perform mind tricks. Hyperspace? Sure one ship going to hyperspace can shred an entire fleet. Oh we've got these junk speeders that Poe kicks the bottom out of? Giant super laser to knock the gate down and starts crumpling Finns junk speeder but then he puts the entire ship in the ray and he's fine???? And then Rose crashes into said junk speeder and he still walks away???? The new trio sure have some thick arse plot armor.
They missed so many oppurtunities to make this great. Gambling planet and no Lando? Cmon. Luke rebuilding the Jedi order and has padawans and we see none of it? Build up a bad guy and have no backstory on him whatsoever.make him all powerful and then Kylo kills him with the light saber right next to him? Knights of Ren? Still haven't seen them. Just god awful writing. Star Wars as I knew it is dead.
PREACHHH
and now it feels like ep9 will be so fricking bare

Kind of like how the 3.5 hour fan edit of the Hobbit is amazing, there will be a fantastic fan cut of this film as well. You remove the fat, and there’s a great movie buried in here.

I’m going to write my prediction for ep9 like I did for ep7 and ep8. I can link them if you want...but for the most part - I nailed it.
And you are absolutely correct. Ep9 has some HUGE hurdles to overcome atm. There’s no Luke to carry the emotional baggage anymore. Rey is where she is. We don’t fear Kylo. The mystery and threat of the First Order is gone. No Leia. No Han Solo to carry the quips. All we have is Poe, who does a great job IMO and flat characters like Finn and Rose to carry ep9.
They’ve got some work ahead of them.

People are complaining that there aren't enough callbacks to the originals (Akbar's death, no Lando, etc.) when the callbacks to the originals were the big point of contention with E7

Honestly, the biggest takeaway I got from The Last Jedi is that women are ruining the Star Wars franchise. I might be a sexist, and a misogynist, but that whole movie felt like Feminist propaganda. Where do I even begin?
1. Rose's sister being able to use the force. Yes, she had that half necklace made of whatever some nerd can identify for me later, but c'mon man. The dude who was supposed to press that ignition stick was conveniently knocked unconscious, so of course SHE must take command and be the hero. Not my biggest gripe, but I'm building a case.
2. Leia space walk. Really don't think this needs examining. Only excuse I see is she's been a strong believer in the Force the whole time, so it's not that far out of the realm of the fathomable.
3. The overglorification of the woman who went down with the ship. I actually liked her character's arc, but really left me wondering why SHE was so necessary. Her beef with Poe came off as forced, even though it was later revealed she was doing what was best for the Rebellion.
4. Rose. Just why? Her rise from sobbing mourning sister to bad arse First Order butt kicker was faster than the time the Millennium Falcon “made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs”. Suddenly she's blasting fools and savings Fin from harm's way. And, now SHE probably will get a good amount of screen time in the next SW because THEY wanted to socially engineer a hero instead of letting Fin's character unfold more.
5. Last, but also my biggest gripe, is the sheer amount of women in the Rebellion. Holy frick sign me up for the Rebels cause that ratio was like 5:2. First Order looked like a sausage fest, which seemingly was on purpose. Next, all the bad guys were literally guys. The Thief might actually turn out to be a good guy when it's all said and done, but they had him sell out Finn and Rose to the First Order to save his own neck. However, each unlikely hero that emerged was a female i.e. Rose/Rose's Sister, Purple Haired Bitch.
In conclusion, I did enjoy Rey/Kylo's shared confliction about their place in the balance of the Force, Poe being alpha as frick the whole time (especially him spitting game at Rey at the end), those little penguin things Chewey was gonna eat but ended up on the MF with him, Luke's projection battle with Kylo, and Rey's arc becoming more fufilled (hoping that stuff about her parents was misinformation). I'm still torn on how they killed off Snoke so abruptly, even though Rey and Kylo vs the royal guard was dope. I know my opinion might upset some of the SJWs here, and it sounds as if there are many other reasons to dislike this movie other than the overbearing feminist tone, but just thought I should address the elephant in the room suffocating what was once a great story from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

I would complain about the SJW slant but that was so obvious from the start it’s not even worth complaining about. It’s the way it is.
The only tension I find myself experiencing while watching these movies is whether or not two dudes like Poe and Finn are gonna be gay and randomly start making out (or waiting for the inevitable scene where lesbo’s get googly eyed with each other, which we kinda got in this movie with the purple haired lesbian goodbye scene)

I read through the (much shorter) non-miserable thread, and had to laugh.
"I loved it, but Snoke tho?"
"Best Star Wars ever, except how they did Luke"
"Wow, Luke death was super impressive, but Leia floating through space?"
"The battles were the best ever, but those laws of physics?"
They want to love it so bad, but down deep know it sucked the life out of the franchise. No Skywalker going forward (because we know Leia is actually dead). Snoke rose to unattainable power with no backstory. Rey with no backstory, while receiving no training, but becomes a better fighter than Obi-Wan, Yoda, Dooku, Emperor, Mace, Anakin, Maul, Qui-Gon, Luke? You don't leave pumped, just view it as not believable

Just got out of the movie
Yoda and Luke was freaking awesome. Moving and purposeful.
Rey and Kylo were awesome, and I like how Snoke was used as a misdirect...helps Ren’s character assume the top evil position.
I thought Billie lourd put in a good performance
Q: what to do with Leia in ep 9

Star Wars is and always has been a Skywalker legacy film. (You even had a Skywalker in Rogue One)
Yoda was a puppet. That didn't even appear in 2 of the 8 movies (3 of the 9 if including R1)

You sound like you enjoyed the movie. You should come over to the "non-miserable" thread. This hive of scum and villainy won't like you here

First Star Wars movie not to say "I have a bad feeling about this". Instead it was the fans that said it watching the movie.

The most terrible star wars movie ever. Straight garbage. I won't see the next one in the theater

Agree. This was terrible.
Also, we should point out that this is the first Star Wars since A New Hope to not feature an actual lightsaber duel.
Way to go, Disney.
