It completely ruins Anakin Skywalker's arc for one. And that arc, when episodes 1-6 are grouped together, is the central thread of the PT/OT. Palpatine being alive makes no sense thematically. It's obvious he was shoehorned in as part of a desperate Hail Mary to save the trilogy.

Yep. The OT story ultimately is about the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, told through the eyes of Luke. The PT gave us the background to fully understand the redemption story.

They have discarded the OT/PT entirely by bringing Palpatine back.

Yup.

And what's the message in this?

Even though someone is evil doesn't mean they pass it on?
Evil is relative. (pun intended)
The feminist movement, although positive in influence, had evil origins.

I'm so confused.

The OT: Luke Skywalker's story

The PT: Just kidding, it was really Anakin Skywalker's story all along.

The ST: Screw all y'all...don't you dumb shits realize that you have been watching The Legend of the Emperor this entire time!

Neither. It's Palpatine survived a 1000 story fall and an explosion.

And then decided it was time to have some kids.

He probably had the kids prior to the destruction, I’m unsure of the timeline though.

Basically the entire Skywalker storyline is unnecessary because he was destined to be killed by his own grandkid.

There’s a lot of good stuff in that leak, but again JJ really should have directed all 3 episodes. Most of what’s wrong is because of the TLJ disaster.

So I’m going to nerd out for a min.

In the EU, there’s an entire trilogy of books that involve the clone of Palpatine returning and successfully turning Luke before he’s eventually redeemed. This experience drives Luke to the thought that a Jedi must embrace the Dark Side and then reject it. This sentiment isn’t shared by all the New Jedi Order including his niece (Jaina) and nephew (Jacen). This theory revolves into the concept of the Unifying Force, master of both light and dark and finding balance. I really thought that’s where they were going with the Kylo/Rey thing.

Really it's...

Star Wars: Here's a space opera about a young boy saving the galaxy

Empire & Jedi: Just kidding, this is the middle of a story about father and son.

PT: Actually, it's about the dad and his rise, fall and redemption.

OT: Haha naw... remember the evil guy that we didn't even think about in the original movie? This whole time, it's about him and his granddaughter... oh yeah, this whole time he had a kid. Gotcha.

This morning I saw the Final Trailer and noted that it shared almost none of the scenes with the last one I had seen.

This afternoon I found out that they are still shooting scenes.

This evening I read the OP. If even half of that shite is true this movie is going to be a retarded clusterfrick.

So, I just gave in and read the spoilers.

... it's not as bad as TLJ. In fact, it seemingly renders TLJ as useless- I don't really see a tie-in that is NECESSARY.

It's definitely NOT the direction I would have taken things, and to me it seems like it is ending the Star Wars universe as we know it. I think it kills the long-term potential of the franchise.

There are so many great "little" moments in the OT. Those only happen when there is real and recognized connections between characters.

"I love you" "I know"

Even in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. My favorite scene in that movie is on the blimp:

Indy: "Remember the last time we had a quiet drink? I had a milkshake..."
Dr Jones: "What did we talk about?"
Indy: "We didnt talk. We never talked."
Dr Jones: "Do I detect a rebuke?"
Indy: "A regret. it was just the two of us, it was a lonely way to grow up. For you too. If you had been an ordinary father like the other guys dads you'd have understood that."
Dr Jones: "Actually, I was a wonderful father. Did I ever tell you to eat up, go to bed, wash your ears, do your homework? No. I respected your privacy and I taught you self-reliance!"
Indy: "what you taught me was that I was less important to you than people who had been dead for 500 years in another country and I learned it so well that we've hardly spoken for 20 years!"
Dr jones: "You left just when you were becoming interesting! Very well! Im here now. What do you want to talk about?
Indy: fumbles, laughs, nervous "I cant think of anything"
Dr Jones: "Then what are you complaining about?"

Two movies they've had now. Can anyone honestly say there is any moment like those two in these movies? No. Why? Because no one can related to these characters. A magical orphan with no connection to anything? A long neck admiral who we just have to assume deserves her role? a janitor? A prison guard who all of a sudden is a commander because she shot up a casino and let a prisoner escape? A moody goth like teen who hates his parents so much he kills his father and ignores his mother (ok, bad example)?

Its just a waste of talent all around in this mess.

If that were true I don't think it's ever been officially acknowledged.

By official do you mean from Disney or anyone on staff? Of course not. Daisy Ridley was on the record saying as much though.

Because it’s just so easy to move objects using the Force. Even a future Jedi Master with some training struggles to do so.

My only glimmer of hope for this film is that JJ has kept this tightly under wraps and incorporates this somehow. Either Plagueis wasn't really dead, or he transferred to Palpatine before he killed him, or Palpatine learned how to transfer and has been doing so, etc.

Dunno if this has been posted

Summary: still in re-shoots. 6 possible endings. JJ was told to keep re-shooting until it's perfect and everyone is happy ("the John Carter treatment"). the movie may literally be in production up to the clock with either sub-par CGI ("the Justice League treatment") or EXTREMELY expensive CGI work

My boss is a huge lifelong Star Wars guy, he doesn’t know I know the leaks and I didn’t spoil him with them....but he mentioned this too. Said maybe the Palps in this one is a clone because it’s been done in the books. But even with that, when did Palps clone himself? And if he did it back in the OT timeline why did his clone chill out in the Fortress of Solitude for 30 yrs?

Fundamentally bringing back Palps, in whatever form he shows up as, negates everything.

Rian Johnson fricked everything by killing Snoke. He should’ve remained the big bad, killed Luke in some crazy battle at the end of TLJ, and been left to be the final boss in this one where he kills Finn, Rose, and Rey.
