Well, if you want to be literal and pedantic, he vanquished Darth Vader both in combat and by turning him back towards the light side.
At this point, the Sith had not been vanquished. Far from it. Luke did defeat Vader in combat, but had not turned him. It takes Luke basically dying for Anakin to turn back to the light.
quote:
And by his refusal to yield to the temptation to the dark side, he defeated the Emperor and pretty much spelled the end of the Sith
So, he defeated the Sith by almost being electrocuted to death? That’s an interesting take.
quote:
That's why the Emperor was so pissed at Luke. He knew it was over at that point. Luke wasn't turning and he probably had at least somewhat of an idea that Anakin was beginning to surface.
What point was the emperor pissed? Luke turning was never a given. Going into all of that, he knew either Luke would turn or they’d kill him. The only thing the Emperor did not fully understand was what Anakin watching his own son dying would do to him.
You want to credit Luke with the best assist of all time, go for it, but trying to say he is the one that eliminated the Sith is just wrong. Luke refusing the Emperor was key to Anakin re-emerging. Anakin was who eliminated the Sith. As I have said multiple times, Luke is absolutely vital to that happening.
What you are trying to do though is credit Luke for the actions that happen because he is important to them happening, but not the actual one that does them. That is just flawed logic. Luke is vital to Anakin finally eliminating the Sith, but it is Anakin who does it.
Probably the most important theme in Star Wars is redemption. Lucas wrote the prequel trilogy to show the backstory, the fall, of the redemption story of the Original Trilogy.

No it doesn't.
I loved that movie. It's my third favorite after Empire and New Hope.
And these two new characters are awesome. Best cinematic additions to the universe since Darth Maul

It's Casablanca compared to the others, but it's still boring and bland. The whole look and feel is not Star Wars, but some hackneyed "edgy" Star Wars.

Something something Rey stabs Kylo and then heals him with healing powers after (lol).
I just got a chance to listen to the leaks. This might just take the cake on Rey's powers. Suddenly, she has the power to instantly heal with absolutely no training on this whatsoever.

My problem now is that the big bad was sitting around and Luke couldn't sense him around the corner the whole time and that the prophecy was never fulfilled since there was still a sith sitting there in Snoke.
To be absolutely fair, that's was always Luke's problem in the books.
And the cause of about 3/4 of the plotlines that he didn't just go "Dark force user" *stab*

Just read these spoilers... yuck if true.
It's a bit bothersome; why go through the effort to actually deconstruct the original story, after you spent 4 BILLION to get the rights to it? I mean, you could have simply churned out a few more generic Rogue One type flicks, set before and after the OT, and opened that theme park, and it would have been golden. You didn't need the huge new "storyline", you already had it developed.
What this seems to be, is almost spiteful. I hate to get political, but it's almost as though loving the original Star Wars has been traced to making one a Trump supporter, so it has to be retroactively eliminated, no matter the cost.

How do you spend all that money on IP of one of the biggest stories of all time, knowing everything you do will be criticized, and decide to make a trilogy without mapping the damn thing out and switching writers around mid-stream?
I hate what they have done to Star Wars and won’t be seeing it in theaters.

Originally, nobody watched those movies and thought they were watching Anakin Skywalker's journey
I agree the OT appeared to be more of the journey of Luke Skywalker, but when you lump the OT and the prequels, the overall theme of those 6 movies is the life of Anakin Skywalker. He is the main character. We see the rise of Anakin Skywalker, we see his fall, we see the rise of Darth Vader, and we see the fall of Darth Vader redeeming Anakin in the process.
Obi-Wan is a similar character in the prequels to Luke in the OT. Anakin is the main character in both. Everything revolves around him in every movie.

Lucas still had fingers in the pie on these. Especially the later.
The former was just DnD picked up for Star Wars and put in a videogame when Bioware didn't suck.

Disney basically telling the same story over and over for their movies lol Star Wars is like the Lion King etc real life adaptations except it was already real actors.
Palpatine alive sounds horrible

quote:which is funny as the prequels stated that Qui Gon was the first one to make any strides with force ghosting. Then it showed yoda and Obi Wan doing it which is plausible because they both were in hiding for 30 years and close to Qui Gon.
All force ghosts. They are max force ghosting this movie.
Force ghosts are also no longer just immaterial spiritual guides, but they can now interact with the physical as seen in TLJ with Yoda using lightning to burn down the tree.
Now leia can do it with her minor jedi training?

I think it's very unlikely that the motivation is actually political, but then a few years back, I'd have laughed in your face if you said Disney (or anyone) would invest so much money to get the franchise, and then just start making movies with zero idea where they're going.
Like I said before, if you don't have a vision going forward, then go make a bunch of peripheral stories like Rogue One. They won't make 1.5 billion, but they'd sell, and they'd keep the universe alive.
What they've done is to gut the universe; the franchise likely won't survive much longer the way it's going.

Yoda had a 3 episode story in the clone wars where he goes through very specific training on a certain planet that he learns about through the voice of Qui-gon Jinn.
Then Yoda teaches Obi-Wan before they both go into isolation after the events of episode III. We actually get that scene at the end of episode 3 where Yoda tells Obi-Wan about this ability.

Well I don't like those quotes one bit
That is going to take some mental gymnastics to prove that the set up for bringing back Palpatine and negating the fact that he was dead and that Anakin killing him fulfilled the prophecy, was "in plain view" in the previous 6 movies.

Just to throw another lol moment in, apparently Luke raises his underwater x-wing on sea cow island from beyond the grave. So not only can force ghosts appear, they can affect the natural world as if they were still alive.

I just can't wait to watch the scene where our protagonist is trapped in the Emperor's throne room, having to watch a space battle between two opposing forces, completely helpless to do anything to assist them, while the Emperor tries to seduce our protagonist to join him.

In this case, they don’t have any other way to advance the plot, so they’re using dead characters to create a vehicle for Rey to get off the planet.
Apparently once Rey gets to sea cow island, she blows up her ship.

The trailer last night was shades of GOT S8 all over again. I read those leaks too. I thought, no way. Then the season happened.
Fast forward to last night. I had read the leaks (here and reddit). then I saw the part in the trailer where they are fooling with 3P0 and him saying, "I just want to see my friends" and, hand to god, I heard the bells all over again.
This is going to be a total cluster.
