Star Gate: SG1...is it worth it?

I saw it is on Netflix and always enjoyed the movie. Is it worth the time to watch 10 seasons?

quote:Absolutely. To me, most of the series is better than the movie- more developed, created a fantastic and very believable (for sci fi) world.

It DOES start to run out of gas about 7-8 seasons into it, but fortunately this overlaps with Stargate Atlantis, which is fresh and great again for quite a few more seasons.
I might trigger some old school fans by saying this, but I think it's a better, more realistic concept than Star Trek, and was done as well as could be hoped for.

I forgot they had Atlantis. What was that one about?

If you like Scifi then SG-1 is definitely worth watching. They generally had a good balance between monster of the week and advancing the main story arc.
Some people like Atlantis better than SG-1. The bad guys in Atlantis are more compelling which usually makes for a better story.
If you like SG-1 you should watch Atlantis too. This board is pretty hard on SG-U. I personally enjoyed watching it, but some people found some aspects of the show hard to get past. Rape Stones might be the most commonly used phrase by people in the SG-U threads on this board.

SG1 is definitely worth the watch, as is Atlantis. I will say that SG1 should've probably ended before O'Neil was replaced by Mitchell as the leader of SG1. Also I didn't care as much for the Ori as I did the Goa'uld. But even with that said, those episodes are still worth the watch.

Yes, SG1 is easily one of my top 3 shows of all time.

If you really liked the movie, you'd probably like the first couple seasons of SG1. I don't really think there's any reason to binge all the way through season 10 though. It drops off a lot after some big resolutions. I never binged it though, just watched on regular television.

They took a good Sci Fi movie and turned it into one of the best Sci Fi series of all time.
They even do Farscape II at the end.

I am currently on my 3rd re-watch and still think it is very top notch!
Though I will admit that for some reason I'm more aggravated with Daniel this time more than ever. Friendship aside I think Jack in a private moment would have really considered removing him from the team. Also I realized that he has always done stupid stuff but its just bothering me more this time through.

Others have already replied but I will agree with them. SG-1 was an excellent show that really started cooking around the second season (the first was good) and was tremendous until they finally started to run out of steam around season 7. That's a pretty darn good run for a TV show to do that well for that long.

Do it and don't think twice about it. Follow the guide posted above and dive into SG-Atlantis and the follow up movies too.
Recently watched a comprehensive youtube video on the history of Stargate. There was a lot of transition from Showtime to MGM to SyFy to etc. Amazon is currently trying to purchase the studio that holds Stargate. Ultimately, the CSD v USD rate inversion made the show way more expensive to produce in Vancouver. Really amazing that they were able to keep those shows going for so long.

Yes though I got kinda tired of it after maybe season 4 or 5

Hell yes. Definitely watch that, the movies, and Atlantis.

I thought I had read somewhere that Netflix was going to pick up SG-1 for a continuation of the series. It might have some of the older recurring characters, but for the most part it’s a new cast.

Star Gate SG1 and SG: Atlantis were pretty good. I didn't care a lick for SGU ( universe ).
This was the time when we were getting great sci-fi shows, like Farscape too.
I miss those days.

I'm doing my first watch of it and am in Season 9 and I enjoy it.
I did not follow that post below, wish I would have seen it. I'm just finishing off SG-1 then I'll start SGA and the movies.

Absolutely not. Maybe the first three episodes, but the rest is hot garbage.
I'm a big fan of the movie, but the lore of SG1 is just... terrible.

Absolutely
Especially Window of Opportunity
Stargate SG-1 episode (season 4, episode 6)
Best Episode ever.

I remember it as Amazon but could be wrong on that. Here is the video I watched that explains the history of the SG franchise. Totally forgot that SG1 started on Showtime until I watched this video.
LINK - history of the SG franchise video
Warning: it is almost an hr long; I watched over the course of a week.
Is Window of Opportunity the time loop or an Anubis episode.
