We did shows that were cancelled too soon. What about show that wore out their welcome?

I was never able to go past season 8 of The Office. I think I could have watched 15 seasons of that show if Michael had stayed, but it just wasn't the same for me.

Westworld. I'm in the minority in actually liking seasons 2-4. Season two had a few of episodes of the best TV ever and the acting and visuals were incredible throughout. But knowing that the story won't be completed, it would have been best to leave it as a one season mini-series.

Give me just 5 seasons of Game of Thrones, maybe six and end with around Battle of the Bastards. Even without a complete ending, it would have went down as a pretty consensus top 3 show of all time. Instead we get a trash ending where the final season is more famous for a Starbucks cup and Daenery's "find of forgetting about the iron fleet" than the actual story. *Although I will defend The Battle of Winterfell. That was a great episode.

What ya got?

Scrubs original ending was perfect. No need to put out that garbage last season that was half final season half spin off.

Obvious answer is Happy Days since it literally sparked a saying for something that goes on for too long.

I figured TWD would be a popular answer but I never watched it.

Forgot about Dexter. Never watched the New Blood or whatever it returned as but yea it definitely went on too long and had an atrocious ending.

I'd probably add Homeland to the list as well.

Two and a Half Men: the show was never great, but it was completely dead after Charlie Sheen left.

That 70’s Show was dead after Eric left for Africa, but it had really gone noticeably downhill starting with the season before. They should have ended the show with Eric and Donna getting married rather than him running away and Donna going blonde.

Suits. This show started off so good and just got gradually worse over time. By the point where Mike’s in prison, the show is almost a parody of itself, and not in a good way.

Scrubs went one season too long.

I love Community, but Seasons 4, and to a lesser extent 6, are trash. Season 5 was solid, though. Maybe they just shouldn’t have done the Yahoo season.

The OC got real dumb after season 1. They burned through so many great storylines that could have easily been full season arcs in the modern day. This show died when Marissa did, though. The last season is just not good, and the show was already a shell of itself before that.

Heroes only has one good season.

East Bound & Down went on way too long.

+1 for The Simpsons. I love the show but some of the voice actors, especially Julie Kavner, sound physically exhausted nowadays. The quality isn’t there anymore; it’s barely a shadow of what it used to be, and now the characters can’t even hide the fact that they just want it to end.

I watched New Blood and didn’t hate it. It was much better compared to the original horrible ending. When they had Yvonne Strahovski running around in a wig as some sort of master disguise I was legit pissed off. To go from some really good writing to the abomination that a middle schooler would be embarrassed about was upsetting.

Season 4 (gas leak year) was absolute trash. Replacing Dan Harmon was the epitome of idiot executives making decisions. Seasons 5 and 6 get shite on too much imo. I think they’re fine.

I like 5, but there’s a lot of negative character development in 6, like they purposely removed ways their characters had developed previously, invalidating those arcs. Britta became literally too stupid to function. Jeff was just a lazy bitter alcoholic. Shirley seemed to 360. Abed seemed to forget everything he learned the previous 4 seasons, and all of the work they did in Season 5 is undone in the first episode. I like a couple individual episodes, but on rewatch, it’s clear they did many characters dirty because they didn’t know what to do with them.

First one I gotta disagree with. Not sure what classifies "way too long" on this because they were just 6-8 episodes per season (would total up to barely be over 1 season of the Office), but I loved every bit of E&D and thought season 4 was great. Kenny doing the sports show and Stevie running the side hussle stand in the mall and getting surgery to fix the double chin
