Any particular reason?

I watched episode one last night in B/W and I’m gonna keep it that way.

Finished it up tonight. Was a fun ride. For my part, I hope there is a season 2. Nic Cage being allowed to be weird just works sometimes. Gleason as Silvermane was also really strong. The Electro character was the weak link for me. I’d find myself just rolling my eyes at his scenes. I was happy for Flint, but the singer didn’t deserve anything close to a happy ending. That last interaction between Ben and Cat was chef’s kiss perfect. Did we ever get a name for the kid? Trying to figure out who he was. A little disappointed we had no JJJ in this world.

Basically, the tone of the stories was the explanation.

I think seeing at least a little in color is good for some context; this isn’t like seeing an episode of the old Adams Family in color and suddenly seeing the house in bright yellows and pinks.

I'm only two episodes in but I read an article that it was doing really well. Jumped to #1 in their streaming rank (ahead of some really popular romance show) and has the highest rotten tomatoes rating of any Marvel show ever.

I would imagine it has a good shot at another season if that was their plan.

Sounds like the show made the correct changes to make it more for everyone, the co-creator of the comic wanted it to be more political:

quote:

“I’ll enjoy it for what it is. It can’t take away from the serious, authentic nature of our comic. If it brings more attention to our books, that can’t be a bad thing. We fought to get our version into print in the first place; I like to think the success of the character proved us right to do so.”

Hine also discussed the creative liberties taken in the show’s adaptation, particularly the noticeable softening of the comics’ sharp political tone.

“If I looked at it as a direct adaptation of the comic I did with Sapolsky, Di Giandomenico and the others at Marvel, I’d be disappointed,” he explained.

“Our version was explicitly political. We named names. We referenced the Friends of New Germany and the rise of actual Nazism in the US. Everything referenced was historical reality, except for the obvious elements of pulp weirdness.

“Our Peter Parker was a radical communist along with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. The politics of the show are soft left. Aunt May would have been scathing. I’d have been overjoyed if they took a more courageous political stance.”

Enjoyed it way more than I anticipated. I thought all the characters were great. Especially loved Brendan Gleeson as mob boss Silvermane.
