Though audiences will have to wait until 2021 for “Morbius” and “Venom 2” to hit the big screen, Sony Pictures is continuing to build up its slate of Marvel films. Veteran TV director S.J. Clarkson has signed on to develop the first female-centric movie from Sony’s catalog of Marvel characters, sources tell Variety.

While it’s unconfirmed at the time who the character at the center will be, insiders say there is a strong possibility that the film will be based on the Madame Web comic-book character.

Either way, getting a female-driven property in Sony’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been a top priority for studio brass given the long list of strong female characters that appear in these comics throughout the years. Though its unknown when this film would get in front of the cameras, getting Clarkson on board was the first step in getting closer to a green light for this project.

Hmm? Cinemas are closed.

Time to double-down on losing money.

As for Clarkson, the director has spent the last decade cutting her teeth in the TV realm working on shows including “Banshee,” “Bates Motel” and “Succession.” This isn’t her first time directing a Marvel character, either. She helmed multiple episodes on Netflix’s Marvel TV show “Jessica Jones.”

Succession is arguably the best drama on TV right now. Bates Motel and Jessica Jones were both decent shows.

I’d check it out.

Here’s a hint: quit pushing it as a “female-centric marvel movie”. The other Marvel movies with men in the lead aren’t billed as “male-centric marvel movies.”

Just make a great film with a realistic female superhero. People will watch it if it’s good.

I'm not sure if Madame Web would be my first choice but all I know about her is what we go from the 90s show

Exactly. Look at the Terminator franchise. It’s pretty well accepted that Sarah Conner is a badass, then with the latest one they went way overboard with the “girl power”. There was absolutely no reason to do that except gratuitous virtue signaling.

Wait, what happened to Captain Marvel or the Black Widow movie?

Those aren’t female-centric?

Madame Web?

Not Spider-Woman?

Not Black Cat?

Not Spider-Gwen?

Not even Silver Sable?

Spider-Woman is the OG female stand-alone title from the Spider-family.

Black Cat has been around forever and is a massive fan favorite (though her being connected to a younger Peter Parker doesn't work nearly so well, so I can at least SORT OF get not using her just yet)

Spider-Gwen might not have the same impact in the MCU because there's no "Death of Gwen Stacy" story arc, but they are introducing multiverse stories so, why not?

Silver Sable is less known, but did get some public facetime with the PS4 game and is a pretty badass mercenary with a deep dedication to her homeland.

Dirty little secret: If one of these studios had the ballz to put together a female-centric Superhero movie featuring Todd McFarlene-esque boobed, scantily clad women whose final scene is a pillow-fight in a vat of pudding, it would break all existing box-office records.

They have to have some marketing experts telling them that this is great for profits.

fricking Twilight and Hunger Games, with a side dish of political/emotional blackmail via wokeness. That's what we have to blame for this.

I guess Hollywood had a whole warehouse of scripts and ideas stockpiled and ready to go for the next several years.

Problem is, SHE lost the election.

Apparently, this is all they've got now.
