Cannes. We should hear how the film is received by that audience.

I typically find that the more the audience at Cannes likes a movie, the more terrible it is.

You don't like Star Wars.

You like TLJ.

New backstories about solo, lando, and Chewbacca with new characters.

Kudos to them. They won't be getting any of my money that weekend. Or any weekend for Solo. This is my Han Solo...

So you are saying it's fleshing out an old story, not telling a new story.

I'm generally against this type of movie whenever it comes to well-known and beloved characters.

We all "want" and imagine more stories about our heroes, but part of the appeal is that they ARE mysteries. That way, anything we individually imagine can fit. The more you flesh it out, the more you narrow it in. There's always going to be someone who says "no, that's not at all what I imagined or liked about him".
Filling in future storylines is one thing (ongoing sequels), but there's no need to give us a backstory.

I'll throw my hat in here.
All new Star Wars movies are dead to me.

I could open a movie called "Open Faced Sandwich: A Star Wars Story" and it would make $300 million domestic.

Only the characters we are already familiar with do we know will survive (Solo, Calrissian, Chewie). Everyone else is fair game.

I am saying Old characters can have new adventures set in the past, which is solo. We haven’t seen any of this story.

Most of what I'm seeing is positive. I'm hoping we get what I think we'll get, which would lead to a lot more of these stories.

This sounds promising:

#Solo was fantastic. Rock solid, straight-down-the-middle #StarWars movie. If you’re looking for a palette cleanser after #TheLastJedi, this is it!!
If someone enjoyed TLJ, I am not sure I could validate their Star Wars opinions.

My only question in it is the female lead. Is she amazing at everything, like it has been en vogue to do in movies now? As though a realistic and flawed woman can't exist in a cast of male leads. /rant

These may be the only stories that work, after the last main series film

There's an entire galaxy to explore. They have plenty of stories to tell.
