So nobody at Winterfell has considered what will happen if the dead rise in the crypts?

It seems pretty obvious what’s going to happen. They mentioned that the women and children will be in the crypts a dozen times for a reason. The night king raises all the dead Starks, they kill all the women and children...

All the people in Winterfell right now and NOBODY has considered this as a possibility?

They should be bolting the crypts shut if anything, although watching a headless Ned Stark rip apart a child will be something to see!

They did make it an important plot point but I thought the books stated that the crypt held magical powers.

Watching those dead rise to defeat the invaders and protect the women/children would be a pretty interesting twist.

I think the Starks rise, but fight for the living.

I think there is a reason the ancient Starks decided to be stored in the crypts with their swords.

They were preparing to fight again.

Zombie Ned would be too honorable to do that.

Its just Ned Stark's bones that are in the crypt. If he was buried whole the we might see something but I doubt a random pile of bones is gonna put itself together.

People always forget this. I doubt any of the Stark's that died in recent memory are anything but piles of bones since they died in the south.

Don't forget that Tyrion was ordered to stay in the crypts by Dany.

Is he going to lead the fight against the Stark Dead? Or, is Tyrion going to lead the Stark Dead into the fight?

OR...you guys are way overthinking this and none of this happens.

I thought I read something like the Night king can only reanimate the dead killed by him or his army?

If not, couldn't he have technically have White Walkers all over Westeros now, especially with the wall down.

I feel like the white walkers will get into the crypts and then the dead starks arise right in time to save the women and children:

The Starks are rising. No over thinking required.

It was foreshadowed long ago in the books when Robb and Jon tricked the younger kids.

They put flour on Jon and had him rise from a tomb to scare everyone.

If you read that chapter you will have no doubt.

The only question is what side will they fight on?

I don't know if any of the dead Starks will be raised or not. But IIRC aren't the crypts supposed to have like a lot of tunnels? If so, I'm wondering if the NK's army will get into Winterfell through there somehow.

Yeah, sure. They only added the Winterfell crypt to the show opening sequence of significant story locations. But let’s go with your nothing-burger idea instead.

I hate to get in any way scientific. But they haven't buried any "Starks", except maybe Rickon, in years. Any corpses would be pretty much just bones with no muscles or tendons/ligaments to move them. The decomposed dead wouldn't be much of a threat. It's not like they used any kind of embalming process to preserve them..

Absolutely. Only those knowledgeable of Winterfell to have lived in its halls know of the tunnels to the outside. Maester Lumen told Theon to use them to escape when he took Winterfell captive and the Boltons were at the gates. So outside forces have never known about the tunnels. But the Night King has sight like Bran does, so I think he’ll send forces to attack the secret tunnels

Yeah, whether its to fight again, or as special protection, the swords have been hinted at just as much as the crypts. I do agree that something crazy happens down there next episode, but I don't think its just going to be mass slaughter.

I’d that happens. I’d just turn off the TV.

That’s bad deus ex machina.

Under most zombie logic, re-animated dead need muscles to move. And the armies of the dead in GOT fit this description. But if you remember the episode “the Children”, when Bran makes it to the three eyed raven, Bran, Hodor, and the siblings are attacked by skeletons with no meat on the bones. These skeletons may have been infused with magic different from the white walkers, but it shows skeletons could be an issue

They just had the two biggest reveals in the show ((Sam telling Jon, Jon telling Dany) happen in the crypts. The only nothing-burger will be the dead Starks staying dead.

It would be hilarious if they did reanimate, but couldnt get out of those heavy stone sarcophagi.
