I started watching this last night but realized that I'd rather watch it fully recorded so that I can fastforward through the shitty parts. I assume I'll knock it out in chunks this week.
Every time I see someone say MC is talentless or can't sing, I post this clip of her singing a Dylan song:

fast forwarding through the political shite. (The Hanks Jeopardy part unnecessarily soiled what was a fairly non-political reunion tonight.)
The Giuliani bit was bad and unnecessary, too.
Agreed, I'm sure there was tremendous want to go more political, but the restraint showed was I think for most of us who have grown tired of the politics ruining every bit was appreciated.
I did laugh at Martin's Gulf of Steve Martin line thought

I watch every week and Lorne is a massive liberal donor. Almost every weekend update joke is anti Trump. Even when Biden was in office
Why didn’t they do something to honor all the deaths?

that was great, it seems likely that had she stayed a little classier and resisted the trashiness that nobody would be saying she’s not talented.

Needed more Bill Hader. He’s my favorite this century.

we got a sketch with murphy and ferrell together, which was a treat.

She has some really good covers out there

I love Sandler but more than half of that song was inside baseball that literally only cast members would get.

I don’t think the Black Jeopardy! skit was political at all. Just a callback to Hanks’ character, who was trying to show that people are really the same. If you didn’t see the first skit, you probably didn’t understand the one last night.
Also, I don’t think the lack of Trump was “restraint” or bowing to “those who are tired of it.” Rather, I don’t think they wanted to give Trump any space on this show. I don’t think I heard his name mentioned once, but I did go to bed a few minutes before it ended.
Oh, and regarding Miley Cyrus, she was an awful performer until she grew up, slowed down on the MDMA, and started taking her music seriously. Some of her covers are chill-inducing. I almost hate myself for liking her newer stuff, but some of it is incredible.

Loved the special. There were a few duds, like the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the musical, and maybe one other. Bowen Yang is just dosgshit. He’s the Asian Leslie Jones of the cast. I just don’t get why he is there other than they wanted to check a box they’ve never checked. Eddie killed it. That impression of Tracey Morgan was perfect. Eddie struggled in the 40th anniversary special but he was very good here. Happy to see him back in form.
Not sure why Hader couldn’t make it. Would have loved to have seen him. Hopefully they let him host soon.
I felt like they nailed it for trying to capture 50 years of sketches and honoring former cast members.
Paul was awesome, I don’t care if his voice isn’t what it was. He’s in his 80’s and we are lucky enough to still watch one of the greatest artists of all time perform. I’ll never be upset seeing him play. It was the perfect way to end the show IMO.
I loved the Belushi short film too.

That was a great show. Not understanding how anyone can expect them to shite gold for three hours straight. Trump barely got a mention. If you were politically offended by this episode, you were looking to be offended.
The opening song was shaky, but answered why Simon wasn't included in the SNL 50th Concert.
The rest of the songs were up and down depending on your musical taste, but that's SNL. For his age, McCartney delivered.
The comedy was fricking great. All these years later, and Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray could each carry a season of SNL alone. Murray's Weekend Update Countdown was flawless. Will Ferrell stood out as well.
Some B Listers that came on strong and never get the praise deserved, Chris Parnell, Ana Gastayer, and Molly Shannon. They do everything 1000%. Parnell rapping just gets better with age.
Mulaney's "only two hosts committed murder".
Streep's "this devil wears nada"
Drunk Uncle's "not MY Captain America"
Murray's "Top 1 African American Weekend Udpate Anchors" list
Spade bailing on the musical sketch and sitting back in the audience "I got a feel for it"
The montage of politically incorrect sketches that the viewers should be cancelled for laughing at.
Glad it wasn't another clip show. We've got Colon Blow and Mom Jeans memorized, we didn't need to see full videos of sketches and commercials. Schiller's Don't Look Back in Anger as the exception. Having an SNL anniversary without watching that is like the holidays without A Charlie Brown Christmas.
