After Sheriff Buford choked down part of that Diablo sammich, he let loose one of the most diabolical burps in cinematic history. That alone was Oscar-worthy

One of my favorite movies. Saw it when it came out in theaters when I was 10 years old. Aways watch it and Roadhouse when they are on.

The screen chemistry between Reynolds and Sally Field was unreal. It secretly makes the movie and is what separates Smokey and the Bandit from all the other car/CB radio pictures of the 70s.
Reynolds simply radiates off the screen and I would bet money half of the best Sally field lines are semi-outtakes that hot left in the movie because they were so good.
Add in Gleeson and Jerry Reed and the whole film just pops from start to finish. They simply don't make star vehicles like this anymore.

I just read earlier that they didn't really have a script and it was all mostly improv

The scenes especially between Sally Field and Reynolds in the car are what really stand out. The laughs and reactions and comebacks all look and feel to genuine to be scripted.
A lot of Reed/Reynolds stiff feels ad-libbed as well.

No disrespect to the movie but I just can't imagine watching a movie on TV with commercials these days.
TCM is unedited and commercial free

Always wanted Smokey’s intro music (the tuba play) as a ringtone or text

The entire film is a commercial for Pontiac and Coors Beer.

How many Diablo sandwiches and dr. peppers have been sold because of that movie?
That whole scene of Gleason eating that sandwich was comedy GOLD. Can't teach that.

And an effective one. Usually watch this religiously every May once early Summer starts to creep in and I put back a case of banquet stubby bottles and dream of buying a firebird trans am

If you are a fan of the band Midland, they do a pretty good cover of East Bound and Down

According to Director Hal Needham, they used three Trans Am examples for the movie, and it turned the model into a superstar. After the movie came out, sales jumped from 68,745 units in the previous year to 93,341.
