Paul Giamatti was just fantastic.

And of course, he always is. He could make the phone book funny.

Enjoyed the movie but not really sure why. Something is weird about two grown men going on a wine tasting trip together and sharing a motel room.

Sandra Oh earned her Oscar nom with her amazing delivery of one line: “You’re getting married?”

The movie generally sucked except for one scene and this one scene made the whole thing worth it.

When he hunkered down in that booth and washed that cheeseburger down with that super special bottle of wine, it was one of the most pathetic movie scenes I've ever watched and I totally got it.

I remember hating this movie when I watched it when it came out, but maybe I was too young to appreciate it. I can't remember why I didn't like it or anything about it, so maybe I should try it again.

Love it also. The book is great. The sequel book “Vertical” is not bad. More depressing story of Miles’ life and aftermath. Great Viagra bit in the sequel.

The Sideways book, like many novels has some major differences with the movie. Funny stories they didn’t include. Both are fun books to read. Lots of wine references in both books.

I love it but like anything else, it’s not meant for everyone

There were some Miles moments that were as tough to watch as the phone call on Swingers

I was 20 when I watched it and had no appreciation of black comedies and didn’t drink wine or understand wine culture. Said that was dumb and thought people were waaaayyy overrating it. That was before I could root for non-altruistic protagonists.

Watched it in my 30s and thought it was hilarious.

I saw this thread and just did a re-watch. I must say I like much better now that I am older and can enjoy dialogue movies more.

Its a movie that, dare I say, ages like fine wine.

Watching Miles drink-and-dial his ex wife during dinner with the ladies was tough.

Seeing his ex after the wedding, and hearing she quit drinking and is pregnant, was doubly tough.

I’m always distracted by the funny scene because Pat Travers was a favorite of me and my friends in college. Man, that’s an old song. Lol

The book is not very good imo and just shows how amazing Alexander Payne can be at coaxing this story to its fullest potential.

Well played.

I actually enjoyed the book - had never read it and picked it up about a year ago. Very quick read but I enjoy the movie more. I wonder how the boar-hunting incident would have worked in the movie.
