I am one of the few who liked Winchester more than Frank. Frank was nothing but a punching bag. At least Winchester occasionally got Hawkeye back. And come on, the toboggan hat episode. He showed some real emotion.

Isn’t that MOST shows where the main character/actor leaves???

A more interesting question is what shows actually got better after main character left

Parks and Rec - Mark.

I know I am in the minority, but I liked Mark and thought helped keep the show grounded.

The show did not get better because he left, it got better largely because by the end of season 2 the writers found their footing and what direction they wanted to go

I understand and respect your and LasVegasTiger's opinion.

I didn't hate Mark, but he was more of a less charismatic and dour Jim character. Schur and the showrunners needed to rework it, season 1 wasn't really working long-term. Mark has his moments, but he either needed to change or go and Leslie character definitely needed a change.

To me, they found the great footing with Ben Wyatt and Chris Traeger. I just don't think the show would have lasted if they kept Mark as is.

NCIS. Without Jethro it's just another make believe cop show.

TV just did whatever they wanted back then. It was around this time they killed off Bobby Ewing on Dallas, only to hit the reset button on an entire season to bring him back...writing it all off as a "dream."

This is an interesting one.

I think it was more of the writing going off the rails after S1 than Danny (Mendelsohn). His character was intended to be the focus of S1 and the reveal(s).

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet-

I really, really liked Vikings with Ragnar.

Once he was gone, I quickly lost interest.

Completely agree which its kinda interesting because supposedly everyone on set hated him, he is generally poorly thought of and career has kinda flopped but man he really made that show work.

Maybe his character wasn’t really acting and it was just him being himself

Yeah that would be an interesting topic

ETA: going with this thread. Criminal Minds got worse when Gideon left.
