But if a person in the movie that is gay and simply existing, as every other character. Are they actually screaming in your face about it?

Then why would you know they are gay if they are simply existing?
They have to go out of your way to let us know they are gay. If they were just regular people going about their business, you wouldn't know they are gay.
They go out of their way and out of the plot of the movie to show a gay significant other, just so you'll know a character is gay, even though it has nothing to do with the show or movie.

Was the character being gay a central part of his storyline, and was that storyline a central part of the movie?

No, and that’s the point. It added nothing to the storyline. If you like to bang dudes, whatever. It was forced into the movie for no reason whatsoever. I didn’t see them have Billy say he was into bondage and wanted Wonder Woman to dominate him with her whip or something.

A quick google says 7.1% of US citizens are LGBTQ.

So make 7.1% of characters in movies LGBTQ.

Done.

But they won't do that will they? That's WAY too low to support THE MESSAGE.

Just curious, are you pissed when movies have less than a 7.1% representation in their cast. since that doesn't reflect the real world either?

I havent seen the movie, so I can't comment on it specifically. But from what you just said, I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. In movies, there always show married couples, or include romantic interests of different straight characters, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the show or movie.
So I'm not going to say it's a bad thing if a gay person is simply acting the same as any straight person.

But did it take away from the storyline? There's always 1000 things included in a movie that adds nothing to the storyline. That's not the issue. Those things that take away from the storyline is the issue imo.

How is that an equal comparison. Did they show Billy show a regular interest in women. That would be the comparison you are looking for here.

That said there are also plenty of people involved in making entertainment content explicitly saying they have an agenda.

Absolutely. I don't disagree with that at all. There's definitely forms of content where they make a gay character front and center, and nearly every other word out of their mouth is, "did you know I'm gay, as a gay man, Hey i'm gay, i'm not attracted to women, only men". For these type of things, the character only exists just for the sole sake of being gay, and the character usually doesn't have much depth beyond their sexuality.

I'm mainly pushing back at the idea that simply having a character be gay in a movie/show, even though that isn't something that's really highlighted, and their character played a bigger role in the movie/show beyond their sexuality. In general, their character was treated the exact same as every other character.

I don't see these 2 instances as being the same. But that could be an unpopular opinion, maybe.

I'm not "pissed" either way. Nor did I say I was. I just think it's clear that there is an agenda that hollywood is pushing and it's turning a lot of people off.

Homosexuals are fine. I know some awesome ones. Some are dear friends. They hate the disingenuousness of this shite too.

I didn't see the movie either.
but they usually don't simply act the same way. when they add things like this to a show/movie to let you know the character is gay, they commonly do it in a sympathetic way. It can't just be normal. It's always a character that you have to feel sympathy for, and them being gay is supposed to make you feel more sympathy for them.

i hate this take because if they did have a reason his gayness added to the story you'd complain it had gay people at all. you just don't want to consume content with gay people. just admit that.

I don’t. I’ll 100% admit that. I also wouldn’t take my kids to watch any other movie dealing with any other sexual kinks.

The chunky kid? He was gay in the first movie.

Remember when he said "not really my thing" when they left the strip bar?

I haven’t seen the whole first movie, but that’s a lot more subtle than how he was drooling over staring at a guy’s dong in a magazine. And then when the movie was about to reach its climax, stops the momentum just to announce he’s gay.

I use this hypothetical all the time:

I'm of Italian descent. Imagine Star Wars just randomly had a stereotypical Italian as a main character that didn't really add to the story. At first, you'd think "hmm, that's odd" and continue on with your life because it's not a big deal.

Subsequently, seemingly every movie has a stereotypical Italian in it. After awhile, even if you like Italians, you'd probably think "does every fricking movie have to have an Italian in it?" It's not that you now hate Italians, you're just tired of that being the focus when it does absolutely nothing but dilute a story.
