Seems like there is an enormous amount of material to be mined there, if executed properly of course.

Do you think we will ever see further development of stories involving the life of Severus Snape, whether by Rowling or someone else upon the blessing and selling by Rowling (or her estate)?

Books? A show series? Movies?

Any concerns over a risk of mutilation of his character? Is it better that he be left alone?

Love Harry Potter, huge fan, have red every book 4-5 times at least.

Didn’t care for the Snape redemption arc. Specifically that he did it all for Lilly Potter. I mean him being a good guy all a long was telegraphed for sure, but the motivation, I mean it’s actually kind of pathetic. Then Harry names his kid after him? The teacher that tortured you in school for years?

Best left alone. While he’s a great character, I don’t see where to take him. Granted if I was a gambling man (which I am), I’m willing to bet HBO makes a Harry Potter series and Adam Driver plays him.

He bonded with her from childhood. She was probably the only person who ever really understood him, from his point of view. As they aged, she moved on and away but he never did, probably because of his introverted, odd manner.

It makes sense to me. And he felt an obligation toward her child although he was conflicted toward Harry because of Harry’s father. He truly carried a burden. Regarding the naming of his son, Harry became clear on understanding just how much Severus did for his mother, father, and himself.

I reread the books and man, it's hard not to dislike Lily and James Potter

Because people are too sympathetic for Snape and Rowling did nothing for James.

Snape for friendzoned and responded by joining the Wizard Nazis. Chances are he was a dick, and James bullied him cause he was a dick. Lupin and Sirius are solid characters and James was their best friend.

Snape wasn't a very social individual. So I doubt he was very much of a dick to anyone. Lily friend zoned him but that's not why I am "meh" about her. She saw James bullying Snape, her best friend at the time, and decided she liked him.

James was a jock and a bully who got what was coming to him. Harry to an extent is a little shite throughout the books as well.

Sure he's the hero and the good guy of the series but he's a bit of an arse. He's more like Malfoy than he cares to admit

Murdered by Wizard Hitler?

Sure.

Snape was a sensitive soul who called his childhood crush the Wizard N-Word and joined the Wizard Nazis.

You forget the context of that whole encounter. Snape was where he was, when he was, precisely because he WANTED to fight with James. He came out looking like the bullied, however, because Sirius was there to back James up. Snape had no one helping him - save Lily - whose help he rejected when he called her a "Mudblood" in front of everyone. Their friendship was over right there because that word is the equivalent of the "N" word in the Wizarding World.

It's also difficult for me to have any sympathy for Snape because he joined an organization whose mission statement it was to kill people like Lily.

Also, Snape wasn't some innocent little nerd just getting bullied - he spied on them, cursed james, was very possessive over Lily, into the Dark Arts.

A lot of the stuff he did, James did as well - I don't think you can say it was moreso ones fault vs. the others. Harry was a much more well behaved and compassionate young man than both of them!

Let's not forget that he designed a spell that sliced up your enemy. Snape likely wasn't very far from pulling a Columbine at Hogwarts.

No, I just had a thought about this after watching Phoenix the other night.

We already know what we need to know about him. He was a shitty person who just happened to love/be obsessed with the right woman.

The late, great Alan Rickman. But to my generation he'll always be Hans Gruber.

Snape is a great character. Perfectly cast.

The more i watch Harry Potter (i read all the books but itll be a long, long, time before i re-read them), the less "tight" that story becomes.

The magic is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Little one off, funny, throw away magic spells would be like the only thing you ever would need. you could catalog all of the magic and then go back through the books and highlight how dumb they were not to use it.
