Yes. It goes for any movie following the original. One thing I'm not sure of is if "prequel" is real or made up to describe a movie that happens before the original, like Prometheus.

How am I just now learning about this? It's been years since I've seen Temple of Doom but I've seen it a bunch of times yet never knew it was a prequel.

Hmmm, this is iffy for me.
I LOVE both Alien and Aliens. But they are both really different movies.
Alien is a suspense, horror movie. The only thing you know is that there's this big Alien in the ship and you don't know when or where it's going to show up again. The creepiest scene in the movie, for me, is when Capt. Dallas is in the a/c ducts looking for it and they find it on the little motion tracker things. That part still creeps me out.
Aliens is a kick arse action movie. Lots of marines and guns and stuff to blow up other stuff.
The end with the Queen is a great ending.
I have both of them on dvd.
Terminator 2 is better than Terminator though.

I think it's hard to compare Alien and Aliens; they're almost two separate genres.

I would argue that The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are two different kinds of movies as well that really shouldn't be compared. The Terminator was a semi-low budget, sci-fi/horror movie whereas Terminator 2 was a big budget, summer blockbuster, action movie.
