All these sequels to movies from the 80's and 90's got me thinking about instances when there is a long period of time in between films. I'm sure there are some examples where it works out, but all I can think of are movies that were pretty bad.

- Indiana Jones 4
- Super Troopers 2
- Godfather III
- Dumb and Dumber To
- Zoolander 2
- Boondock Saints II

Can anyone think of some success stories? I want to be excited for Bill and Ted and Top Gun, but history seems to be against delayed sequels.

Rocky Balboa (2006) was a damn good movie.

Then Creed (2015) nine years later.

I like Jurassic World.

Temple of Doom to Last Crusade was 5 years in the Indiana Jones franchise, and Last Crusade is awesome.

Yeah, these nostalgia-pandering sequels usually turn out pretty bad. Mostly just rehashes filled with fan-service callbacks to the original films.

Two recent examples that did it right are Blade Runner 2049 and Fury Road. It usually works better when it's mostly a new cast.

Wasn’t The Color of Money a sequel to The Hustler? I enjoyed

Pixar laughs at this with Toy Story, Finding, Monsters, and The Incredibles.

T2 is better than The Terminator in my mind. Probably my #1 on sequels better than the original list
