From episode 9 to his end, that actor really upped his chops. I loved how they made his collapse a slow burn...we, the viewers, could feel his medicine start to wear off. Just incredible acting and story arch there.

Yeah, he did a phenomenal job with that.

I watch Ozark because I find the show to be highly entertaining. It entertains me despite being a mediocre series.

This is exactly right. It’s a really fun, dumb show that people are saying is on the level of arguably the greatest tv show ever made.

quote:

Throughout the history of this show, the writers have continued to create unnecessary scenarios in order to create a character reveal.

I feel this way about some of the characters that should absolutely be dead. In the world of the show they should be dead(Ruth and Darlene), but the writers pull some TWD shite and put them in ridiculous situations and have them be fine.

quote:

Some longer than others..

I just post my thoughts. If too long, don’t read. I get it.

quote:

always yells when it’s uncalled for

Dude that character has challenged the FBI, the mob, police, yelled at a bipolar dude off his meds having an episode, called a psychopath crazy to her face(Darlene), and has now straight up walked away from Wendy and Marty who are partnered with a Mexican cartel.

All this from a nobody who is easy to find living in a tiny trailer. Wendy should be on the phone to have her taken out before she leaves that building.

quote:

Friend of mine thinks it is foreshadowing Jonah maybe being like his uncle. Bipolar disorder can run in families after all.

Maybe, but I didn’t really see anything unreasonable from him to point to that. Being angry with his parents and going to take out Helen kind of makes sense in his situation. Wasn’t like he just randomly lost his shite.

Okay, seems to me that you don't like it.

It's a tv show (Netflix series) if you will. You know, entertainment. I don't think for one moment that 90% of the shite that happens on it is realistic. I still like it.

Different strokes, different folks

This isn’t really the point. I like the show, I just think there is a lot of dumb shite in it. It’s basically the tv version of the Fast and Furious franchise. In that sense, saying this is on the level of Breaking Bad is the equivalent of saying Fast Five is on the same level as The Godfather or something.

Even in the beginning, everyone kind of agreed this was a faster paced, dumbed down version of Breaking Bad. The thing is, Ozark is entertaining, but it’s not always a well written show.

Yeah, this is always the excuse for bad writing.

I can't compare the two because I haven't seen Breaking Bad (I know, I need to). I like it but it's not the best series I have seen.

And yes, there is a lot of dumb shite in it but it's still entertaining.

I'm sure they could use your immense talents in that area then...

I finished it today. Ruth was my favorite character in the first season other than Bateman but I dreaded seeing her face and hearing her speak this season. Was she like this before and I just forgot or has Garner and the writers jumped the shark? Good lord she was annoying as hell. I agree with some of the others about her being cartoonishly over the top and throwing in a "fukin" with every single line of dialogue makes every thing she says look silly. I was literally laughing out loud when she was frowning while confronting Marty and Wendy then storming out of the office walking like an ape. The ending was a great WTF moment but the show will be a little less for me after that

See my posts above. It’s amazing people fall over backwards for her and think she’s brilliant. Her character is so over the top and I don’t think she does a good job at all. It’s like she’s trying too hard

This is how I feel.

I think it’s the latter. The writers definitely did that character wrong. The shite that was happening with her often times didn’t fit what the character was and why I loved her.

Laura Linney was incredible in that scene. I have no fricking clue what Garner was doing with her face.

storming out of the office walking like an ape.

I had the same exact thought. I’ve noticed even way back on The Americans, she clearly has something wrong with one of her legs. But this, you nailed it. fricking ape/gorilla stomped out of that bitch.

Glad you guys are seeing what I’ve seen with Ruth

Also on the therapist how are we to make she bought a 400k car with 100k payment that Marty gave her?

The therapist was trying to get more money out of Marty and she stated later on that she thought 100k was a lot more money than it really was. I assume she spent most of it on the down payment towards the car.

I haven’t read the thread, but has anybody brought up the fact that Wendy put down a whole handle of shitty vodka in one night and is able to wake up and drive home without even leaving the store with a Gatorade and a hangover meal?

This is the rare TV show that has two teenage kids that you actually like. Jonah more so that Charlotte.
Like many people have said, the Ruth character goes too far. The voice is fine, but the obsessive cussing and resting b**** face is ridiculous and old.
Helen was a great character this season
The Darlene/Wyatt stuff is dumb
The Ben character was too forced. Glad we don't have to deal with him next season
The Marty/Wendy dynamic continues to be outstanding. Both deserve awards. The show is fantastic and is probably a top 3 show right now

Saw a YouTube video today where Julia Garner was interviewed about Ozark Season 3. She dispelled the viewer myth that Ben may still be alive. But what a great woman! She is so grounded and humble and approachable to the interviewer who was with Variety Magazine. As over the top as she is in Ozark she loves the character. And she explained that 45 minutes after receiving the Emmy for BSA she was back to worry mode as she had to jump on a plane back to Atlanta to shoot the penultimate scene with Laura Linney. And at S3 end, Ruth hates Wendy but not Marty. Season 4 will be very much about Ruth and her evolution to what she becomes beyond Season 3.
Julia Garner does watch the show has to watch each season twice. The first time through she cringes as she is always worried about the quality of her performance. The second time through she just enjoys the story and characters. She is always afraid any show she shoots is her last job because the acting is not up to snuff.

Ruth is a prime example of the Peter principle, she has been promoted to the level of her incompetence and is perpetually frustrated and angry

On the finale.

Ben was was a great actor but I couldn’t get my mind off him being the love child of Mark Paul Gosseler and Keanu Reeves.
