The highest ranked Star Wars is TLJ Lol. What a pile of trash

Well, this thread certainly didn't disappoint. And this particular item is why I decided to post it lol. How in the hell did they think a list with TLJ in the top 10 was worth of publication I don't know. I guess they got me and other idiots to look at it so they win.

Good for some laughs anyway.

Fury Road - #1
Road Warrior - #31

Blade Runner 2049 - #20
Blade Runner - #34

And there is much worse.

Rotten Tomatoes percentage score does not rate the quality of movie, so I have no clue why they made this list. It’s just gonna piss people off (and rightfully so) that don’t know what the percentage score actually means

Based on the replies I refuse to click the link and give them what they want.

3 movies in and you realize it's a garbage list. Just skipped to the end after seeing that, somehow the list got worse.

Gravity at #4 and Interstellar at #92? Seriously?

Yea, that's what really caught my eye. Gravity is a good movie but it's not even in the same league as Interstellar in terms of SciFi greatness.

Alien should have been higher. It's definitely in my top five for sure.

I also thought 12 Monkeys, Moon, Sunshine, Ex Machina, Solaris (1976) and 2001: A Space Odyssey should have been ranked higher.

So it’s a list based on their scores? No wonder it’s such an awful list

The list serves one purpose, as Exhibit A of how critics have recently fawned over and loved average to below average movies...especially the blockbusters.

They'll pan a really good small budget movie but all fall in line like paid schills for Disney, etc.

That’s not what the RT scores mean

A movie with 95% can have an average rating of 7.2/10
While a movie with 85% can have an average rating of 8.2/10. A significant difference

Giving a movie a 6/10 counts as a positive review. So a 6/10 counts the same as a 10/10 when just talking about the percent score

Well then, they're way too "positive."

For a lot of crap movies...and "critics" seem to be way less discerning these days.

Now did independant critics stop taking criticism seriously or did they stop being independant?

There's too much love-fest or lowering the bar or paid schill...the blockbusters way too easily impress the critics.

"The movie sucks but it was fun...most explosions you will see in a movie this year! Go see it, you won't be disappointed!"

I'm not saying movie critics have to be curmugdeons like Pauline Kael but we've gone from critical analysis to everything is great, GOAT, and fun is all that matters in movie-making.

And what's fun about watching a terrible movie? Critics defense of TLJ was that it was so much fun. Fun is enjoyable by definition. What was enjoyable about that?

Agree. It seems like every week there’s 2 or 3 new movies that are in the 80s and 90s.

It’s either that or the worst movie of the decade

From what I remember, Rotten Tomatoes simply is a binary "watchable/not watchable" score. 5.1/10 = 10/10 for scoring purposes.

In this light, almost any modern blockbuster with good FX and a tie to fame (ie, any new Star Wars movie) should be scored highly. It's part of pop culture, and the visuals alone make it "worth a look". Which is all RT determines.

Just because they're using Bayesian statistics to adjust the score, that doesn't mean it's a good formula. This list is just awful. I mean really fricking bad. There are movies in the bottom 25 that are easily top 25. There are movies in the top 50 that have no business being in the top 100. I just want to get myself a time machine, go back to the moment when some Rotten Tomatoes editor decided this list wasn't an abomination, and explain, using short words and long knives, that this will not end well.

Just fricking bad.

This seems similar to the formula they used that magically came out with Wonder Woman as the best reviewed super hero movie ever.
