It's a depressing end to an inspiring career. You can have all the addiction issues you want, but to intentionally leave behind a teenage daughter... I'm not a fan of how he took himself out, but the body of work could probably have only been borne from a damaged person.
Out of all his series, The Layover was my favorite. If you have 24 hours in Montreal, what do you do, for example. It's realistic for nearly any budget, and it doesn't involve a five hour train ride to the middle of nowhere for a five hour dinner. It's realistic, and fantastic.
