Big Adventure was straight up comedy genius. The guy had some real talent. RIP

Though his solo public performances were not appreciated in its time.

Always loved Pee Wee's Playhouse as a kid.
Loved it too, and I was already in my late 20's when it started up.

Holy cow, I've seen that movie several times and I never realized that was him. Learn something new every day

I was never really into his character, but he was good in Blow.

Scratch off one more from The Blues Brothers. I believe that leaves Dan Ackroyd, Steven Spielberg, Frank Oz, Joe Walsh, Chaka Khan and maybe Steve Cropper left.

His Groundlings shows and The Pee Wee Herman Show in LA? Those were popular stage shows. That’s how he got on Letterman, got his own cable special, and came to the attention of Hollywood.

There's a lotta things about me you don't know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand.

He was developing the character for some time. He was in another film, a cult classic of sorts (1980's Midnight Madness), as it was:

-Disney, but felt decidedly off-brand for Disney of that era (only the second PG film of the company, after 1979's )
-Is notable primarily for being Michael J. Fox's film debut
-Contains a clear prototype of the Pee Wee Herman character, also played by Paul Reubens Prototype Pee Wee Herman

ETA: The film also has director Andy Tennant's most significant acting role.

Midnight madness

Watched that 1000x growing up

Saw a clip of Ruebens on Fallons show. He said when he was starting out and developing the Pee Wee character he saw an audition for the Dating Game. Went in full character
Picked him to be on the show 3 times as Pee Wee, won it once
