That can't be right. Sauron was the greatest craftsman of rings in the universe matched by no other being - except Celebrimbor (who exchanged knowledge of the skill with Sauron to improve each other's abilities). How the heck is some brooding henchman Balrog going to help with that?

Except... Smaug spoke in The Hobbit

Exactly. Dragons speak, Balrogs don't.

But RoP doesn't give 2 flips about Tolkien's work so who cares?

During the “RIngs of Power” Season 3 presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, it was revealed that Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, a hulking magma monster that will help Sauron forge the One Ring.

Oh man. This is horrendous.

I think this is more of a “watch our show, we have Simon Pegg” move than anything else.

Simon Pegg? Guy seems alright but he's not going to turn around ROP. Henry Cavill couldn't resurrect that shite-show.

Notice all the liberal woke posters are staying out of this thread. They can’t admit defeat and how they were wrong.

Does the Balrog get a wig to wear so he can fool the elves?

Just think they spent the most money ever in this history of a tv show on this pile of shite. It could have been game of thrones good. This is what happens when woke/dei ruins tv shows. Amazon lost its arse of with this.

This show does one good thing then follows it up with 10 awful things. Of of the few good things they did out of two seasons was Annatar learning under Celebrimbor. Now they are throwing that away with this plot.

Nothing is worse than changing the lore with having two people battle (can’t remember who they had fighting) and having lightening strike one of the trees and it ran down the trees roots and that’s what created mithril Just unbelievably bad writing.

Probably more just that the Balrog was bad arse in the movie and they want it in their story. But of course they add one and make it completely unfaithful to the source. I am going to laugh my arse off if they make this thing talk in English instead of something like black tongue. Laughing just thinking about a Balrog teaching a ring forging lesson

Me: Jamie Campbell Bower would make a great elf. Would love to see that.

*gets cast in Rings of Power*

Sigh.

Some of yall are getting worked up over the wrong things...

So the balrogs dont have any dialog in the books. So what, that doesn't mean they are mute or unintelligent. They are Maiar, per the legendarium. Same as the Istari, Melian, and Sauron. They were Morgoth's field generals in the First Age, so they can clearly communicate. How do you command armies without communication?

The issue is, they weren't skilled craftsmen. Sauron was.
Oppenheimer doesn't need Patton or MacArthur to help build the bomb.

I have reservations on whether Pegg can convey the cold malice and power required for a balrog, and it would have been far more interesting to explore Sauron possibly recruiting the balrog to lead his army, and maybe be rebuffed;
1) I knew Morgoth. You aren't Morgoth, you're a wannabe desk jockey.

2) No thanks, the Valar kicked our asses and blew Thangorodrim (and everything within 500 miles of it) off the map. Have fun with that, I'm staying under the mountain and off their radar

I watched both seasons and it's a chore to get through. I really can't remember too much about it except for the brooding elf, the brooding galadriel, and the brooding hobbit/type people. The utter waste of time with the humans (Numenorieans???) so far has been the hardest thing to get through. They really did make a once entertaining franchise, turn into complete drudgery. And every character is the most effeminate version of that character.

I’ll see your Simon Pegg as The Balrog and raise you Marnukh, the Orc who will be Galadriel’s sidekick in season 3. Yes, we now have a good guy Orc as one of the 3 travelers hunting Saron as he heads for Mt. Doom.

It's so bad it appears to be deliberate. "What's the point of having money to burn if you don't occasionally burn some" seems to be the thought process.

Not sure what the aim is? They’ve progressively made worse decisions prior to every season. What’s crazy is it seemed there was some introspection after last season’s massive failure but the leaks look like it’s still racing to the bottom. I’m beginning to think these people simply have no idea what they’re doing and can’t course correct. There may have been a generation that intentionally perverted all this IP but we’re past that and into idiocracy in the industry.

Nah, that's not true...

Galadriel was more feminine in the movies than this show

But honestly, it's just such a wasted opportunity. They did do some things right- they got the orcs (visually, with practical makeup and prosthetics) correct.
Same with Durin and the (male) Dwarves; and I'm not really even worried about the female dwarf. She's stumpy enough
The Elves in theory, you just need good-looking people with Spock ears.

Galadriel- NOT her writing or portrayal; but the actual actress looks close enough to Kate Blanchett.

I mean, that's 95% of the battle, finding someone fans would accept. It should have been a slam-dunk, all you needed to do was give her the appropriate role and dialog

I think they found a good Elendil, too.

You have Bear McCreary putting fantastic music out.

The problem is, the creative team has the skill of a high school drama club, and they're intentionally not sticking to canon. Their excuse is that so much isn't available due to rights, but what they came up with is stupid and doesn't fit.
That, and for some dumb reason, they think we "want" hobbits to be a major part of the tale. Which is retarded, nobody HAS to have hobbits, we loved the fantasy of LOTR. And Tolkien even explicitly stated that hobbits were never a part of the big picture until Bilbo found the Ring; so it's pointless to include them in this.

Oh, and about the Elves, again- good looking (ageless) people, pointy ears and long hair. We don't need short-haired Elves, or middle-aged (Celebrimbor) Elves. The hair is public perception, and the age is part of Tolkien's stated description.
