Should be incredible. Seems like a perfect fit all around.
Who has been the best Napoleon to date? My vote is for the guy in Bill & Ted

The French will be butthurt that the actor playing Napoleon isn't French.

I hope it doesn't turn into a CGI fest.
I can’t imagine Scott making that mistake.

Pre or post-2005 Ridley Scott? Because it feels like two different people.
Ridley got lazy I think. All of his films are just paint by numbers now. He just storyboards every single scene then they shoot it without any real stress.
Maybe he always did this. I know he and Tony were both huge storyboard guys, but Tony overshot everything and then put the movie together in post via magical editing.
Ridley doesn't do that as much and I think his films are overly reliant on how good the script is versus. If it's bad or mediocre, you're getting a bad or mediocre movie.
If the script is great, you're getting a great movie with striking visuals. His set design though is also not as good as it used to be. Go watch anything from the 80s and 90s and look at his stuff from the last 15 years. It's not the same.
If Kubrick were shooting this it would look like Barry Lyndon.

Does anyone know what happened to the 24 hour long biopic that was made in France about Napoleon several decades ago?

"My enemies are many. My equals are none. In the shade of Olive trees, they said Italy, could never be conquered. In the land of Pharaohs and kings, they said Egypt, could never be undone. In the realm of forest and snow, they said Russia... could never be tamed. Now they say nothing. They fear me, like a force of nature; a dealer, in thunder, and death!"

That sounds like it should be in the trailer.

Man I wished they would have done an HBO miniseries instead. I’m sure this movie will focus on his military exploits, and rightfully so, but the man also went on to create some of the greatest societal changes Europe had ever seen.

Agree with everyone saying this should be a miniseries. Could not think of a better fit for the role than Phoenix though so based on that I am IN.

It would, but I wouldn’t want Kubrick’s cynicism.
Scott is going back to a period he loves. Fingers crossed.

There is no way this lives up to the hype. You could do a highly entertaining movie just by its self on his Egypt and Levant expedition. There is a lot going on just there with his relationship with his wife, affairs on both sides, his vision to recreate Alexander the Great, his abilities to be a great General on land while still being absolutely thwarted by the English at sea, and a curator of the arts and sciences. This needs to be a 3 part movie. Egypt campagain, rise to Emperor and victory against the coalitions, Russia to defense of France to Elba. No need really for a return and Waterloo scenario as its anticlimatic.
For those wanting for a great read on his life i recommend:

Napoleon's story is much too epic and complex for a 2 1/2 Ridley Scott production. It should be a miniseries.
