Rewatching Dexter

Been enjoying watching this again. About to start Season 8 (maybe) even though I know it is trash.
Season 2 with Doaks and season 4 with Lithgow are the GOAT. I do have to say that seasons 5-7 are not as bad as I remembered. Season 7 with Ray Stevenson (RIP) is actually very good aside from Debra just basically accepting that her brother is a serial killer.
Still trying to decide if I want to watch season 8 because I remember how pissed I was when I watched it the first time.

There's nothing wrong with 5, aside from having to follow the all time greatness of 4. 5 stands on it's own just fine and if I recall has a great natural stopping point.
6 was the definition of meh/mediocre.
7 stunk.
8 was insultingly bad.

I enjoyed them all. Were they as good as 1-4. Not by a mile, but they still were pretty good. I never agreed with the hate they received.
S8 was not very good though.

I always loved Season 1 the most

Trinity killer was the best. Take me back to good TV.

People dump on the last 4 seasons, but they were still better than 90-95% of tv out there. Its a top tier show even as a whole body of work even though the ending sucks.

Watching for the first time, I’m on season 7. Doaks and Trinity seasons were top notch. Colin Hanks season was kinda meh

I just finished a first watch recently. I liked, or was fine with every single season. I was even fine with New Blood!
I think they completely botched the end of Season 8 (but I was fine with the season itself). And then they went and completely botched the end of New Blood (but I was fine with the season itself). It's hilarious that they had two chances to end it right and failed both times.
The thing that I liked least about the whole storyline was his brother and son both turning out to be...

Me and the fiance’ have decided to get balls deep in this. Neither have seen it. Just watched episode 1 and will stick with it. I remember everyone going nuts over it back in college around 2010. I was obsessed with Lost at the time though so never got into Dexter

I loved all the seasons except the last one. It's one of my all-time favorite shows

My issue with S7 and beyond is that the characters have been built up for seasons and then just start acting completely out of character. It’s as though the writers completely forgot everything that they had written previously. I laughed my arse off when Yvonne Strahovski is running around in public with a wig as some sort of master disguise. Insulting to the audience.

I'm guessing it was a money grab. As people have stated thousands of times before, S4 was the perfect stopping point, but they just kept on going.

Finished Season 8. Hate watched to be more specific. It had its moments, but damned I wanted to strangle some folks for their stupid decisions, and some of the dumber plot lines. I had to just fast forward so many scenes just to get through it.
Overall, glad I re-watched the series, though.

The reason the show took a nosedive those last three years was the show runner left the show to work on…wait for it, Twilight. Yep those glittery vampires sucked the life out of Dexter.

Here’s a (mostly spoiler free) quick recap of Seasons 5 and beyond…
Jordan Chase: meh
Robocop: meh
Colin Hanks: meh
Ray Stevenson: acceptable
Lumen: terrible
Hannah: hot
Season 8/the finale: terrible
Dexter’s lumberjack beard: hilarious
Dexter: New Blood: decent until the final few minutes of the season
Recommendation: Bingewatch Seasons 1-4 and end the show feeling satisfied.

Watching this now for the first time. On season 2 where he captures Doakes. Good so far.

That's an understatement.
The whole season Dexter is like “I will do whatever it takes so that you will never end up like me… Oh yeah and can you please kill me so you won’t be like me and kill serial killers???”

Didn't this show actually start on CBS and then they shifted it to Showtime to catch the cable drama craze and make the a lot darker?
