Humphrey Bogart needs to be in this list as well.
Absolutely.
Another that most people wouldn't think about, but who dominated American movie and box office for decades, was Spencer Tracy. Fewer of his films have stayed in the collective culture consciousness than actors like Wayne, Stewart, and Bogart, but he was a (figuratively) towering Hollywood star for 3 decades.

Tom Hanks would have to be up here as well.
From Toy Story to Saving Private Ryan, You’ve Got Mail to Catch Me if You Can.

Tom Hanks would have to be up here as well.
But that's the modern era.
Chaplin, Bing Crosby, Shirley Temple, John Wayne... all had multi-year reigns. Doris Day ruled the early 60's.

Sorry about the pejorative ("philistine"), baw. I'm tough, but I'm fair.

Bringing Up Baby
His Girl Friday
The Philadelphia Story
Topper
Arsenic and Old Lace
Here’s an overlooked Grant classic you didn’t include in your list:
Taut little political thriller in which Grant is a doctor on a second honeymoon in a South American dictatorship and a Marxist revolution breaks out. Good dramatic turn as Cary finds himself caught in the middle trying to figure which side are the good guys (Spoiler Alert: there aren’t any)

Jimmy Stewart has an argument. Dude was in so many all time classics.

Well done...Cary Grant is awesome.

The movie star "resume" answer is Tom Cruise.
It's always Tom Cruise. He's literally been in 40+ blockbuster movies.
Didn't Harrison Ford top that list?
Actors who have starred in the most blockbuster movies - 2016 article
1. Harrison Ford (11)
2. Sir Ian McKellen (11)
3. Tom Hanks (10)
4. Will Smith (10)
5. Tom Cruise (9)
Cruise had three movies since this came out:
The Mummy (flop)
American Made (not a blockbuster, but a good movie)
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (absolutely a blockbuster)
What movies are you including for him to have 40+?

Are those good movies? I haven’t seen any of them
None of them? Yeah. At least a dozen or so are classics...especially the comedies(and North By Northwest).

He would most definitely be my second pick.

First off, 3 of those blockbusters for Ford weren't carried by him - he was part of an ensemble in SW but if we are going to go that route then here is a list of Cruise's big movies (so far)*
*I'm not defining a blockbuster by an arbitrary monetary figure - but as a successful major motion picture that made good money
Taps
The Outsiders
Losin' It
Risky Business
All the Right Moves
Legend
Top Gun
The Color of Money
Cocktail
Rain Man
Born on the Fourth of July
Days of Thunder
Far and Away
A Few Good Men
The Firm
Interview with the Vampire
Mission: Impossible
Jerry Maguire
Eyes Wide Shut
Magnolia
Mission: Impossible 2
Vanilla Sky
Minority Report
The Last Samurai
Collateral
War of the Worlds
Mission: Impossible III
Lions for Lambs
Tropic Thunder
Valkyrie
Knight and Day
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
Rock of Ages
Jack Reacher
Oblivion
Edge of Tomorrow
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
The Mummy
American Made
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
3 upcoming that are in the works (which given his track record we know will be successful):
Top Gun: Maverick
Mission: Impossible 7
Mission: Impossible 8
And I wouldnt necessarily call it recency bias - the man has been staring in movies for literally 40 years with an insane batting percentage.

Samuel L. Jackson is listed on most sites as the highest grossing actor of all-time, but the vast majority of those films are from the MCU where he plays a supporting/minor role. I’m pretty sure Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise are the highest grossing actors in lead roles.

There is only one actor who embodied America around the world and that is John Wayne. The fact he is still arguably the greatest star in American film history almost 45 years after his death speaks volumes.
Cruise's resume is great, but in each of those movies (outside of Top Gun, arguably) it's the film you remember. In almost all of The Duke's movies, it's him you remember. He just dominated the screen like almost no other actor in history. Maybe not with acting talent, but with presence.

Cruise should get some credit for producing many of those films himself as well.

Clint Eastwood
I personally hate the guy but I would say John Wayne's movie star resume matches if not exceeds both Cruise and Eastwood. Guy was not only a mega movie star for a very long time (35+ years) but he's still a hugely popular figure today even though he's been dead for over 40 years.

Henry Fonda says hello.

DiCaprio has to be up here as well. He will be eventually at least - he’s just younger thanks Hanks and Cruise. But every movie he’s in is massive.
