Having a female replacement was how we got into this shite in the first place.

If they didn't have an established, hugely popular franchise to piggyback their woke shite onto, they wouldn't make 10 bucks at the box office.

Remember "Annihilation" starring Natalie Portman and a diverse group of chick "scientists?"

Yeah, neither does anyone else.

Kathleen, her little besties, and everyone like them have firmly established that "girl power" = total crap.

Doesn't matter

Yes it does. Disney likes money. Disney spent an insane amount of it to acquire Lucasfilm. They aren’t going to piss away the profitability of the most recognized IP in the world because SJW.

Feige would be huge for the future of Star Wars. A fan that’s already proven he knows how to tell good stories.

And this works because Favreau could step in and helm Marvel. He started it after all.

This. I actually wish that it never worked on storm troopers. Their indoctrination should be too deeply embedded for a mind trick to control them. They aren't free thinkers who can be mentally coerced to do something.

It was actually a pretty decent movie.

I thought it was awful. Audiences agreed, as it bombed pretty hard.

Well I guess I’ll have to learn how to live with having a different opinion than the average American movie goer. Same audience that has Bad Boys 3 in the #1 spot 2 weeks in a row.

Ahhh im full of shite, I’ve got tickets to Bad Boys 3 tomorrow night.

I thought it was ok

Thought they addressed the female team pretty well, too- they sent multiple male "military" teams in, none ever came back. I think they were about to nuke the site, and said frick it, let's send in this group of chick scientists that wants to go. Give them a week or so, if nothing, boom.

Biggest problem with Annihilation was the marketing. What little of it there was, seemed tied with A Wrinkle in Time (I saw both those trailers before, I think, TFA).

Yeah, the dudes all failed so the superchicks went in. I don't know how that's "addressing" it.

Either way, it bombed, and I don't think marketing was the reason. People didn't give a shite and Natalie Portman isn't the big draw someone seems to thing she is.

But I'm completely serious. Between it and movies like Ghostbusters, Charlie's Angels, Oceans 8 and now the entire sequel trilogy, the entire "girl power" concept is being associated with total crap. People like Kennedy are using quasi-feminist bullshite to bully their way through Hollywood, saying that if you don't like their movies, it's because you hate women, before filling the screen with failures and crap.

When was the last time a deeply weird, inaccessible sci-fi film released in February made a ton of money? It made $43 million on a $40 million budget. Definitely didn't do well, but hardly a bomb. And I'd argue that the studio had absolutely no idea how to market it, because marketing something like that to mass audiences is nigh-impossible.

I think it's odd to associate something like Annihilation, which was adapted by a man from a crazy novel written by a man, with the other girl power films you mentioned. Especially since the scientists were definitively not "super chicks" (they immediately reveal in competencies and crumble under pressure), and the main character completes every action she makes because of a man, or the specter of a man.

I feel like I have to wonder this a lot here: you totally didn't watch the movie, did you?

It's too little too late. The OT characters are all dead. The hope of seeing Jedi Master Luke in beast mode is completely gone.

This. It is one of those obvious situations where if the PTB actually do what the fans want, everyone wins. The most recent example of this is when LSU decided to bring in a modern offense.

Disney went all in on the Woke, PC, and Me too movement so a white man taking a job from a women even though the white man seems more capable just isn’t going to happen.

It's hilarious what parasites female SJWs are. Black filmmakers have proven capable of creating their own genuine works. Women are seemingly incapable of building anything themselves from scratch.

Instead they find popular IPs, almost always created and made successful by white men, and then take over it and pretend like it's theirs by God given right. Then they leverage the IP to be a Trojan horse for their bullshite.

And like many hosts infected with mass parasites, the IP becomes sick and maybe even dies.

The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Cane, It's a Wonderful Life, This Is Spinal Tap, Blade Runner, The Shawshank Redemption, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Hugo, Man On The Moon, Donnie Darko, Event Horizon, Children Of Men, The Iron Giant, Fight Club...

Look at all those shitty movies that bombed in theaters during their initial release!!!

PS Ocean's 8? Yeah, that movie was successful financially so I guess audiences must have liked it by your standards.

The problem with the "we have to have a female successor at Lucasfilm" is that it implies that with a white guy in charge (even one who has made more money for Disney than you can shake a stick at) minorities won't get their shot.

Well by all accounts the Mandolorian was run by Favreau and Filoni with Kathleen Kennedy being very hands off on the project while she concentrated on Rise of Skywalker. I humbly submit to you don't get much whiter than either of those guys... yet half of the 8 episodes were directed by an Asian American woman and an African American man. Hell, they liked Chow so much they gave her the set up episode for the season finale.

It doesn't matter what plumbing the person running Star Wars has. It matters whether they can find the right talent for a project and keep them on track. We know Feige can do that. Favreau and Filoni too. Given the constant backstage drama at Lucasfilm on everything not called the Mandolorian we know that so far Kennedy can't do that.

Silly me, I thought preferring a job candidate because of their gender was illegal.

Blade Runner 2049 lost over $80 million.
