I think so. Turns out he’s kind of a soy boy.

Who would have been better?

Kind of ?

Despite his real world views and comments , what really killed MCU Hulk was the off screen conversion from Hulk to professor Hulk. Bad enough they went there so quickly, or that they didn't even show it, but hell, the explanation even was horrible. ' We figured it out '. Really? Frack off.

Pretty sure Bruce is supposed to be needy as hell but I'm guessing this isn't what you're talking about

"Professor Hulk" is an amalgamation of 3 distinct personalities: Bruce Banner, Joe Fixit (the gray, crafty Hulk), and the child-like savage Hulk. What Endgame gave us was just clown-arse Ruffalo-Banner in the Hulk's body.

The Russo Brothers made some really good movies, but they did the Hulk wrong on every level.

But it wasn’t just in Endgame.
They kind of turned Banner into a punchline. He was the comic relief. No brains or scientific purpose since Ultron I believe.

He played the role really well in the original avengers. He was also pretty good in Ragnarok.

I don't know what the frick happened in infinity war that made him so atrocious

Ed Norton was better. But he Ed Nortoned his way out of the roll by demanding creative control and unlimited script revisions. Something he was never going to get. Ruffalo is ok, he isn't a negative. I'm not sure he could carry a stand alone hulk movie that i would be interested in though.

Yea I remember this board initially drooling over Ruffalo and hating on Norton’s version back then

The main issue is the character Hulk. He’s supposed to be OP on some level so he’s continually “Peter Petrelli’d” (along with Thor) just to keep the plot going and keep it interesting

So they essentially broke the Hulk’s character when Thanos tossed him around like a rag doll in IW and never put him back together...leaving the character relegated to comic relief

The issue then became: Ruffalo sucks at comedy and comes across as corny, whereas Chris Hemsworth could at least pull THAT off when they neutered Thor

Yeah, Ruffalo sucks, I think I dislike him as Hulk more than Cheadle as Rhodey. Cheadle is just bland, Ruffalo turned Hulk into a pansy.

That scene in Wakanda where the scientists there talk to him like he's an idiot and doesn't know anything is so infuriating.

I seem to remember Black Panther’s sister smirking at him like he was an ignoramus at one point.

Although I hate his politics Mark does a good Banner. Of course I'm old enough to remember and think Bill Bixby was the best Banner.

Who else in these times?

Aaron Eckhart maybe
Karl Urban would be fun

I didn't mind him as the hulk, gave two completely different perspectives on the character. Norton seemed to be better at Banner though

I'm sure Marvel would have preferred this also, but unfortunately, Ed is Ed.

What really killed the Character for me was the whole Black Widow romance thing. Bruce Banner is not falling in love with the Black Widow and just straight up forgetting Betty Ross! No sir, Not gonna happen!

My issue with Hulk is they never gave him another solo movie. The Hulk is by and large one of the most popular characters Marvel have in their catalog. He deserves more respect in the movies.

How the hell did he fall for Natasha, after he was in love with Betty Ross, who was literally never mentioned again. I wish they would have focused on Hulk a lot more in Ragnarok. I wanted World War Hulk.

I'm ok with him losing to Thanos that first round. What I'm not ok with is Hulk never coming back out, and really there was no explanation for.
I didn't hate Professor Hulk either, I just hated they did that off-screen. Disrespectful to the character.
I most of all hate that in Endgame final battle, we didn't get a good ole fashioned angry Hulk push puny Banner aside to charge Thanos for revenge.

They could have done so much with Hulks character. I don't know whether that is Ruffalo's fault, the writers, or both

Bana = Banner
