Black Mirror was highly talked about on here so my wife and I decided to give it a shot with episode 1, which was a major disappointment.

I have heard that the show has better episodes, so I am hoping to get some recommendations from yall. TIA.

The Entire History of You and USS Callister are my favorites so far. Haven't watched all the episodes yet. I was like you, hated the first episode.

that one with the social media (starring Bryce Dallas Howard) seemed eerily prophetic to where this country (and the world, really) is going.

It blows me away that people still dont' understand not to start with S1E1 after being repeatedly told not to.

Watch White Christmas, it's pretty much the best of hte best and gives you an accurate "feel" for what BM is all about. If you love that one (likely will), just start with S1E2 and just go through in order, or skip around, it doesn't matter since the episodes are standalones adn don't tie together.

If you hate White Christmas then the show itself probably isn't your cup of tea and you'll save yourself time by not watching any more.

Unfortunately you'll have to look at each season individually, but check the IMDB rating for each episode. Just glancing at it it should be a pretty good guide for what to check out. LINK

There really isn't any order necessary. The only crossover between episodes have been of the Easter Egg variety where maybe some technology from one episode shows up in the background of another episode. Not really anything that would make you enjoy the episode less if you miss it.

Episode 1 isn't terrible but the golden rule of Black Mirror is to not start on Episode 1. Common knowledge by now.

Hit up "Hang the DJ" to get your wife back on board.

Same. I think it's actually a great starting off point for the series. After watching that unfold and then actually seeing it happen, you get that you're in for something entirely different with the series.

I wouldn't let squeamishness keep me from telling someone to start at Episode 1.

My favorites are:
Be Right Back (S2E1)
San Junipero (S3E4)
Hated in the Nation (S3E6) (This one is slow at the beginning, but picks up later on. Also, I think it is one of the longer episodes at 1hr:30mins)
USS Callister (S4E1)
Black Museum (S4E6)

Season 3 probably has the best episodes. Haven't seen all the episodes, but my fiancee says White Christmas (S2E4) is the best.

Also, Hated in the Nation's main character is played by the actress that did Merida's voice in Brave. So, it just funny to her that voice curse.

It's actually a fantastic episode. Sure, the concept is extremely fricked up and uncomfortable to watch, but that's the point. I don't plan on a rewatch, but that doesn't mean it was bad. It didn't really fit with the rest of the series, though.

That was probably the low-point of the series for me. It just never really grabbed me like the other episodes.

I would say the opposite actually, National Anthem isn't really like a "real" black mirror episode at all. BM deals with futuristic concepts and extremely advance technology integrated into regular everyday life. NA is basically just an episode you might see on any run of the mill serial drama on TV. I rewatched it a few months ago for the first time and it wasn't AS bad as I remembered, but again, my whole gripe with it is it doesn't FEEL like BM. So if someone hears how awesome BM is and wants to dive in and give it a go, it's a major disservice to start wiht the first ep because it truly doesn't give them an idea of what the show is all abotu.

My advice is the same as always. Start with the first episode and go from there. Just know that it is one of the worst and that you should at least give it a few episodds, and that they get better.

IMO watching S1E1 helps you appreciate how good the others are. And S1E1 makes a great point in its oen, it just sort of misses in execution a bit.

I think a benefit of BM is you dont' have to go in any order since storylines don't continue over, so you aren't bound to start from the beginning like you do with other shows. With that in mind, if someone has a clean slate and going in totally fresh with no BM experience, it just doesn't make any logical sense to encourage them to start wiht one of the 2 worst episodes.

Maybe I'm biased because white christmas was the first ep I saw, but I mean after I saw it I knew 100% in my mind that no matter what I was going to watch every other episode the show put out until they stopped making them. Someone watching NA first proooobably isn't gonna have that same mindset.
