They are two very different movies both great on their levels. Intersetall is a visual masterpiece. The visuals are almost like a character in the movie.
correct. this is almost a textbook lesson in 'transferring from book to film' vs 'created as film'
i dont know about interstellar (was it a book before the movie?) but The Martian is a fantastic book and much better than what ended up on film.
eta did the film even have the whole nuclear core sub-story? i think they left that out entirely and that was a huge part of the book.

Definitely not as good of a space movie as Interstellar and my wife who is a huge NASA nerd described this more as a "cool/bro science" movie rather than a good science movie.
OK. Then a better science movie in your opinion?

They have the nuclear core in the movie. They did leave out the part about the dust storm when he was going to the other site.

endlessly rewatchable movie
2 things, both having to do with the ares 4 MAV.
The Ares 4 MAV would have had to be able to withstand 5 or more years on the Martian surface, to include occasional and possibly frequent storms exactly like the one that threatened Ares 3. What was the plan (for future missions) if Ares 4 had been knocked down?
Now that watney and NASA have “wasted” ares 4 MAV on this one person rescue, they’ll have to build and place another MAV? Doesn’t this frick up the entire mars program?

The costs are always high to rescue Matt Damon.

Guys can we get back on track. I’d much rather discuss how retarded y’all are for preferring the Martian over Interstellar than get into some poliboard pissing match.

I get what you are saying... but realistically, to this point, we've never lost a human in space
So they are historically accurate

the book is much better
Came here to post this. I couldn't put it down. Read it in like 3 days. I made my wife read it and she isn't even a science fiction fan. She loved it. I was so disappointed in the movie the first time I watched it, but have since started to like it.

Ok definitely going on the list.
Damon annoys the hell out of me so I think I went into this movie already biased so I'm going to give it a proper rewatch.

Same. I’m not a fan of interstellar.

Spoiler: George Clooney was dead in Gravity.

It's been a minute since I read the book, but I seem to recall this issue being addressed. They (or maybe Mark's inner monologue) mention it will mess up the other planned missions.
Andy Weir knows how to write sci-fi page turners. Not overly complex, but fun. Real fun. Project Hail Mary was great. I'm curious how Gosling comes across as Grace, and also how Rocky is portrayed and their "language." Jazz hands.

That series has been on my to-do list for a while. Maybe it's time.

I said read, but I actually meant listen in my car. I don't have time to actually read

This is on HBO Signature right now. Yes I’ve been watching again.

Absolutely love this book. Ray Porter is awesome.
Hadn’t heard this being made into a movie. That’s awesome, will now go read into that
