they did, I think you might be misunderstanding the part the other poster referecned.
It was at the end of that scene when the 3 of them had already driven off. The camera showed an overhead view of the empty grave, then transitioned from taht time (BB era) to omaha time wiht gene lying on his bed, but during the transition there was a second where it was more or less gene superimposed onto/into the empty grave.

My guess is the discovery is by Marion and mistakes by Gene.
Also guessing Saul is gone and Jimmy creates a new persona. End of show.
He has many identities to choose from by now.

Kim is now working for an irrigation company in Florida.
Francesca says she is still being followed by the feds.
You can count on that the DEA is watching Kim in some capacity.
Jimmy drives down to Florida to hook up with Kim and this trips the DEA into overdrive.

No doubt Howard’s murder shook Kim to her core.
But it’s hard to imagine Kim working at a sprinkler company. Heck, she was not just a brilliant attorney, her career trajectory would have led to lead partner at HHM or even eventually a Supreme Court justice.

The phone call to Kim begs a few questions. Gene asked for “Kim Wexler”. She wouldn’t be using her real name if she was trying to hide. And I doubt gene would’ve made that kind of mistake using her real name.
So either Kim was giving him some serious shite for everything that went down and refused to be dragged into anymore shite with him and didn’t take kindly to him calling her and risking the feds finding out that they talked.
Or Kim refused to take the call and whoever was on the other end of the line was relaying the message that she refused to take the call or that there was no “Kim wexler” at that location etc

I remember the scene but don't remember the details of which character we saw in the grave...Jimmy, Saul, Gene, or all? Could it have been signaling the death of the Gene character as he's slipping back into his con man persona?

No doubt. I would have really preferred the prequel be about this group. What did Gus do in Chile to impress Don Eladio so much? How did Gus link up w/ Madrigal (he obviously had a long term relationship w/ Schuler and Lydia)? More Mike breaking bad in Philly. More Lalo and the rise of the Cartel. etc.

My prediction is that the new discovery made is that the cops find Lalo and Howard bodies and travel go to talk to Kim since she is the last one to see Howard plus they also know she has been in contact with Francesca because her phones are tapped.
I think Gene is going to steal whatever he needs from cancer man, but he is going to find the poor guy dead, and cops are gonna show up to investigate which leads Gene escaping to see Kim at the waterworks place. He is going to finally see Kim again just to realize he is screwed because the cops are on to her and Saul. Gene is going to realize he is screwed and turn himself in and take all the blame so Kim can live free.

You think she was stupid enough to call from a traceable phone and give her name? Also, who cares if they find Howard and Lalo? Obviously that grave is connected to kingpins Walt and Gus. I don't see any real threat to a living character.
