Season 5 was definitely a weak season and story development. Mereen, Dorne, and Braavos just sucked the life out of the show. Even when Jon Snow was killed at season's end, to me it was a " meh" moment. Hardhome was a great episode but I can't really want to remember or care to anyway the rest of the season.
Season 4 is fantastic in so many good ways like others have said.
My rank:
4
1
6
2
3
5
I chose season 1 over season 6 bc I had not known the show was based off books till halfway thru and everything was done great and the way Ned was killed was a complete shock to me. Lots more sex in Season 1 too.

6 being ranked #1 by so many is just an example of newer means better to many. There were several filler episodes that dragged on honestly. The last 2 were phenomenal, but the season as a whole was not the best. I think the shittiness of season 5 also made this one rank higher for some.

I just can't understand how anyone would have season 4 this low

Season 4:

Joffrey's murder
Tyrion's speech
Mountain vs. Viper
Wildlings vs. Knights Watch
Tywin's murder
Breanne vs. Hound

Anyone putting Season 4 less than 1 or 2 is crazy.

Agree that Season 4 should be a minimum top 2

Makes absolutely no sense. I understand this is subjective, but still.

Season six had a couple of meh episodes, but it also had some of the biggest moments of the series such as Jon being revealed as a Targaryen and Dany finally heading to Westeros

That's the last 5 minutes out of 550 total minutes or so. The final 2 episodes were amazing, but the season as a whole is easily behind 1 and 4.

You forgot the best moment of season 4, and the series as a whole- The Rightful King, the King Who Still Cared, Stannis the MANNIS Baratheon charging the wildlings to save Jon Snow and the Wall and prove he was the only combatant of the War of 5 Kings who actually deserves the crown because he has foresight and the right intentions.

Hardhomme was an absolutely phenomenal episode, and y'all know it.

That cannot be overstated.

That episode alone made season 5 worth watching.

Don't believe me? Watch it again.

I did and while I do agree with it being great I still think the finale is the best one yet. Just goes to show how great of a job Miguel Sapachnik did. All 3 of the episodes he directed are arguably the 3 best episodes in all of GOT.
