re: Prometheus 2 moving forward.

What sort of expectations were necessary to have?
My problem is the assumption that people who like the film are right, and that you can't not like the film (I'm not saying you do, but people confirmed your comment after) as if people who don't like the film have some invalid reason, or they "expected" too much, and that caused their distaste. It's like those who don't like the film are WRONG.
On the expectation front, I can maybe seen the point, but I would still like an explanation, mostly because what does it means in terms of Ridley Scott, his comments about the film, the feel from the trailer, what should I have felt?
The only reason I don't want to rehash all of this is because I am about to leave for the day (for the game). But we have literally had this exact discussion several times before.
And I'll definitely admit that part of the "expectataions" thing is on Scott himself from the initial press about this movie. But after that initial period, it was never really a direct "Alien prequel" like so many people were wanting (although I think it will align more closely with that once the sequels come out).
As for this:

That's up to each person. For me, I wanted a cool sci fi movie that dealt with sort of the alien universe. And that's what I got. A lot of the questions posed in this thread (and every other thread) can be answered quite easily, excluding mainly some of the stupidity of the characters (but even those actions drove the plot/action). Really we should just link the old Prometheus threads and if people want to read them, they can.

Tron and Prometheus are both science fiction...
Tron is fantasy IMO. Disney made it. I wouldn't classify those two together. I think Avatar and Prometheus is a better comparison.
sorry, you didn't enjoy the movie bro. I thought it was pretty entertaining.

Oh boy, look what I started.
Usually I am entertained and don't complain about really any particular film, but I couldn't shut off my brain or suspend disbelief enough to make this movie make any damn sense. It is easily recognizable that the writer from Lost wrote it, because plot devices and events are thrown out at random disguised as "mystery." This guy then gets blown by Hollywood as if he is 6th Sense Shamylan.
It did look very cool for the most part, save the old dad guy.
The fact this supposed (Freauxzen) "sequel" won't be written by him may just give us the movie they should have done in the first place, which could potentially be a good movie.

All of this.

Promethus was garbage.
Visually pleasing, but the plotline was horrendous.

there's a difference between not liking a movie, and posting a Steven king novel length list of reasons why you dislike everything about it.
I agree
Not liking a movie isn't fun
Posting a Stephen King litany of reasons you do not like said film IS fun.

A very pretty movie that wasn't very good? Seems like a pretty obvious comparison to me.
and the fact that they planned a series and tied it to a "proven franchise" screams money over art, completely and totally. Most of the characters are uninteresting and in Theron's case, completely superfluous.
I've listed my complaints many times. No need to do it again. I'll see this one on cable. If he wins me back, I'll start giving him my money again.
