Best movies that take place mainly or entirely in prisons? These are some of my favorites.

Top Tier
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
Cell 211 (2009)
Cool Hand Luke (1967)
A Prophet (2009)
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Second Tier
Fortress (1993)
Get the Gringo (2012)
No Escape (1994)

Here to suggest Shotcaller. I’m late.

I’ll nominate Starred Up

Hard to talk about prison movies without mentioning one of the original ones- The Big House from 1930.

Le Trou (1960) is a good one. There's also Brute Force (1947) with Burt Lancaster.
