Yeah I'm about to drop it. I haven't liked much of original content in a while anyways.

Current Amazon Prime membership pricing:

$14.99 per month
$139 per year
Prime Video membership is $8.99 per month

Are you saying $2.99 in addition to the $14.99 or $8.99 because that is funny right there.

i don't know if Prime didn't come with the free shipping, music, and kindle unlimited that i'd subscribe to the video service. i've liked tons of movies and shows off of there over the years, but the only reason i haven't cancelled it is the tie in to the entirety of prime.

i dropped sling, max, and a+ in the last month for just netflix and youtube tv and haven't missed anything really.

Wait, you can purchase Prime Video separately from A. Prime?

This makes no sense.

Prime charges like $120 per year which includes prime video and expedited shipping. Now they want to tack on a monthly fee to not have to sit through ads.

I've had Prime forever. For some reason this move really pisses me off. They could have just raised the price like they have over the years and I don't think it would have bothered me. Cancelled my subscription after years and years. New chapters,

I honestly think the streaming model is not sustainable; we're basically going to a wifi version of cable, but without the convenient integration.

What's really bad to think about is this- the demise of the old TV model is going to hit sooner or later. For those who don't remember, you used to get 25+ episodes a season, not 8 or 10. People talk about getting rid of filler episodes, but you had time to get to know the characters better. Star Trek TOS, with 3 seasons, lasts about as long to watch as GoT with their 8 seasons.

What that all means... when the older stuff gets too dated to rewatch again, you will look for newer stuff. But there really isn't that much new stuff out there, in terms of quantity; and as time progresses it will become more scarce. I mean, take the Disney+ shows: is there 25 episodes combined (1 season in the old formula) for all the Star Wars series? Can't be much more than that, if so.
Another 10 years or so, there will be a lot of streaming options, with little to watch.

I think Netflix did the opposite.

They brought back a $7.99/month plan but it contains ads.

I'm about to go with annual plans on Max and Paramount but I will switch to the ad free content. It costs about the same as the monthly with ads.

I just cancelled youtube TV and will buy it back for college football season.

Unless other countries follow the Britbox lead and make their shows available.

On our honeymoon in Korea, we watched a historic program being photographed in one of the National Parks. Subtitles aren't a problem for most of us and the potential for new-to-us content is there, just waiting to be tapped.

The thing about Netflix is that if you do nothing, nothing changes. Just because they OFFER something, doesn't mean you have to tinker with your plan.

At least, for now.

I agree with this. There was an inevitable tipping point of cable offering locked in deals that seemed great initially, but basically over-pricing everything.

Then cord-cutting enters with true broadband Internet widely available - I'm a tech guy and cord cutter to be fair - with options that don't require contracts, can give you the content you're looking for at any time.

The streaming model has used that leverage to bloat for every entity starting their own streaming service and/or selling content and increasing prices due to the nature that streaming content costs money too. Everyone now is building/paying for that infrastructure and whatever library they have.

Basic takeaway from me - if not every executive said we need to start our own streaming service, it would be different.

I wish Netflix had a 15%-20% savings for paying annual.
I've wanted to cancel it for months but my kids always find something to watch on there. We have had it continuous for the past 30 months or so.

Ideally, I'd want to cancel a streaming service for about half of a year and then let the kids binge the other half.
But since I haven't been able to get rid of it, I'd like to save with the pay in full

I got Apple+ for one main reason - Monarch, Legacy of Monsters.

I was underwhelmed with the show. Not one episode was soo good that I felt the need to revisit and watch it again. Certainly not the entire series either.

I'll probably drop kick it and try something else for the next 6 months or so. IDK.
