There was a Christmas Story sequel (not about Christmas, tho) that ran on PBS many years ago. Different cast and not funny.
Only thing I remember is a big windmill attached to the top of their car.

If I remember correctly that had Charles Grodin and perhaps the Home Alone kid? Either way it definitely sucked
Edit to say it was the brother of the Home Alone kid

That was a bad movie called My Summer Story. The PBS show was called The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters.
Jean Shepherd hosted a radio show in NY in the 60s that inspired a lot of these adaptations. When I was still living in Chattanooga, there was a Christian radio station that would air reruns of his old radio show at night.
ETA that Matt Dillion plays Ralph in the PBS special. It's on youtube.

Billingsley, Vince Vaughan, and Favreau must all BFFs for life. They are in a shitload of movies together.

There is "My Summer Story" which came out in 1994. Of course, it doesn't hold a candle to "A Christmas Story," but I thought it wasn't that bad of a movie. The one I never liked was "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss" which came out in 1988. That's the one with the windmill on the car, I believe.

Gotta be honest I'm pretty surprised they didn't cast a black guy to play Ralphie

You cannot make this movie without Darin McGavin. Hero of the first movie who overruled mom's concern and gave Ralphie what he wanted.

Well that's the only hope for the film is that it might have early 80's nostalgia. But this feels like, ugh...Vacation (2015) with Ed Helms...which how no feel like the original.

Out if all the horrific ideas for sequels and remakes this might be the worst. The narration and each character are iconic, you can't duplicate or add to any of it. Just leave it the frick alone

I mean it’s a Christmas movie. I’ll probably watch.

Don’t know what he’s done lately or since but unlike many child actors at least he’s kept himself in relatively decent shape. Doesn’t look like he’s had a couple of decades doing drugs or getting DUIs.
Didn’t the guy who played the bully he beat up have a bit of a rough post acting career?

quote:"My Summer Story" was also written and narrated by Shepherd and directed by Bob Clark. It freaked people out to be clicking past HBO and Showtime and hear Shepherd's voice talking about "the old man" and "the Bumpases next door" and it wasn't A Christmas Story.

They are. Billingsley was a longtime producing partner with Favreau before he got the Marvel gig.
Favreau and Vaughn go all the way back to Rudy and did all those 90s/00s movies together, while Billingsley produced some of them. I think he even produced Elf, too.
If you remember the old Dinner For Five show on IFC, Billingsly was on there a couple times and so was Vaughn.

The DVD commentary for Made was pretty funny. They mentioned how when Billingsley wasn't on set, there was no one to rein in Favreau and Vaughn, and they'd add a bunch of "fricks" to scenes for no reason. Billingsley was good at telling them when they were coming across as douches.

Made is basically an alternate universe sequel to Swingers, if the Vaughn and Favreau characters didn't make it as actors. It's so underrated.
The carpet cleaning van scene with Peter Faulk is an all-time Vaughn moment. LINK
