Sorry, had to throw in a woke joke.

I think this is a bad idea. Money grab?

And Bob Clark does a cameo as well, the guy talking to the old man while looking at his major award from the street.

Billingsley, Vince Vaughan, and Favreau must all BFFs for life. They are in a shitload of movies together.

Two things make A Christmas Story: Darin McGavin and Jean Shepherd's narration. Neither of those things will be available for this movie, so... nope. Will feel nothing like the original.

Which one had him as a teenager working jobs to buy a car? I seem to remember him and his friends moving furniture down a stairwell but not much else.

I might be misremembering this but I want to say the original movie (or at least the stories that inspired it) were set in Gary, Indiana which at the time was still an industrious and fairly populous blue collar city and not the dilapidated ghetto we see today.

Updating it to the present, if grown up Ralphie did stay close to his roots we should expect to see a much more "colorful" cast.

I say why not? Unpopular opinion...but A Christmas Story isn't even the top 10 of greatest Christmas movies in my opinion. Is it a bad movie...not at all...i like the movie, but lets not act like this movie is even close to some of the other Christmas classics. Maybe its time for a reboot. If Peter Billingsley is participating in it, maybe its because the script is actually worth it??? Of all people, he understands the nostalgia around A Christmas Story, maybe he thinks this could become something great? Again, i say why not?

The actual house and film location is in the ghetto of Cleveland, so it wont be far off from what you're describing.
