I would be very surprised. Marvel would get a lot of shite for not adding a black person

They tried that already.

I don't believe it but this would be great casting.

Now being reported as as a done deal:

LINK

This is crap casting. Sorry, but while I have enjoyed Pedro in several of his roles, this is another Marvel misfire.

Agree. Great actor miscast. The people making decisions never have to answer for their mistakes.

I might have bought into this if the MCU had not used John Krasinski as a very successful Reed Richard in Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness. Pedro will be contending with this comparison and its unfortunate.

on one hand: Fantastic actor. generally a huge fan.

on the other: Definitely a departure from his normal work where he tends to play more rough around the edges people.

Krasinski seems like an abvious choice because well… he looks stretchy.

To be honest, for this part, being able to emote great intelligence with (almost) great humility is what I'd want to see. I say "almost" great humility because Mark Waid did a perfect job of explaining Reed's motivation. His hubris caused his friends to become freaks, and he spends the rest of his scientific career putting them in the position to instead be celebrated as heroes.

I never thought that Krasinski was great for the part. (The main reason people wanted him was because he's married to a real life Sue Storm and it would be great to see them on screen as a team.) He's more of an "Awe shucks" hero like Captain America.

I don't care that Pascal is hispanic. I just don't see him as a super-scientist. RDJ pulled it off because that character is equal parts extrovert, and he excels at that (and he's a great actor). I'd rather see a black or hispanic actor who can sell the humble but excited super-scientist than a white placeholder actor.

I mean they completely whiffed on the character right out of the gate lol. Reed watched Wanda wipe out a ton of Ultron bots single handedly, and his solution was to appeal to her humanity and give away how they can beat her

Reed is supposed to be cold, detached and analytical to the point it almost dehumanizes him. I was baffled at how out of character that was

One of the problems with the Reed casting is the actor has to be credible as brilliant but also likable and serious. Krasinski is smart but like (Franco) has a resting dumb face.

The guy that occurs to me might be Jon Hamm. I think he can do Reed. Doom is the next most essential character. They haven't gotten that right so far.

One of my favorite moments in Secret Wars was the heroes having a literal mountain dropped on them and the only thing keeping them alive is Hulk holding a section of the mountain up over their heads giving them a tiny pocket of space. As Reed is quickly reconfiguring Iron Man's repulsors into blasters, using circuits from the other heroes' weapons, he simultaneously throws subtle insults at the Hulk, knowing that the madder he gets, the stronger he gets (giving him the extra time needed).

But you can't build a franchise around a 50 year old guy to start with.

And yet - the best one was when he got too old to play the part anymore

It’s wild how much Cavill looks like Jack Kirby’s original face for Doom. Going from DC’s golden boy to Marvel’s most iconic villain would be an incredible heel turn imo

Well, when he was drawn by Mike Weiringo, but then everyone Weiringo drew looked like a Disney animated character (like Krasinski).

Assuming the rumored 4 are true, it’s not a bad lineup at all.

My personal opinion is if they were going Stranger Things for casting, Dacre Montgomery is a much more natural Johnny Storm than Joseph Quinn. I also just don’t quite see Pedro as Reed, although I do really like his work in general and would love to see him in the MCU.

Now saying that, he’s a great actor and will likely crush it if true. This reminds me of when Heath Ledger was cast as Joker, which I thought was incredibly questionable decision. I was obviously shown to be completely wrong and he to me is the definitive Joker in film. Pedro has the chops to pull the same thing off.

Still very interested to see who plays Doom, who I imagine will be a core universe character and very important casting.

This board is ridiculous at times. Pedro Pascal is a great actor and would be great in this role

Agreed, Dacre was my top choice for Johnny after that it was Rudy Pankow (JJ from Outer Banks) but Quinn is solid. I’m sure he can pull off the fratty behavior of Johnny.
